Your question is not answerable because there is more than one reason a man asks a woman out (some women simply lead men on with their faux interest). To a naive, trusting man this can confuse him. So in such a case this is not narcissism. However a woman that preys on a man's good nature for attention is narcissistic. Even if she actually does have low self esteem.

It's not that "I can't believe she won't be with me" as it's a solitary competition; he feels he must win and, if he can't, that's a threat to his confidence and belief in his value.

I guess technically it could be either of them. I would say this is way more ego than it is narcissism. Hurt pride is likely what is the cause of a guy not taking rejection well.

Well, good for you then, but an awful lot of women do date drug addicts and other criminals, but they would never date me because i'm too clean cut or maybe they think I'm "boring" or whatever their excuse. I don't drink and don't do drugs and never have. I don't go to places that sell alcohol, because I don't want to be around people like that.

It's immaturity. They don't know how to process emotions in a healthy way. Like 1% of the population is a narcissist. People over use the term because they don't understand what they are talking about. It has nothing to do with gender etc.
