Although some unemployed people may be some of these, it does not mean that all unemployed people are this way. These are all opinions of course that I have seen on this website and job search forums.
1. They are lazy

Believe it or not some people do actually go out and look for work.
2. Want to live off unemployment checks

Not everyone who gets fired gets unemployment. Unfortunately, unemployed people who do this give other unemployed people a bad name.
3. Unemployed people will get hired faster if they work in fast food

The economy has affected hiring in every industry. Not every fast food job hires everyone.

There was an experiment done in Denmark based upon an economic hypothesis.
Someone had looked at the rate of unemployed people finding a job after getting laid off. Within the first few weeks, a good percent found new jobs, but that rate dropped to a low level. Then about two weeks before unemployment checks stopped, the rate of finding employment dramatically increased. This curve over time looks like a bathtub: starts out high, drops to a low value, then increases near the end.
Denmark decided to experiment with how long a person could obtain unemployment checks. They shortened the time, and measured the curve. it was exactly the same shape.
The conclusion is that there are four levels of motivation: 1. Those who find a new job quickly. 2. Those that will take a job if it comes along. 3. Those who wait until the last weeks before finding a job. and 4. Those who don't find a job.
Therefore, if a government wishes to reduce unemployment, all they have to do is to shorten the period of time a person can collect unemployment checks.
Thank you. I'm not unemployed, but at one time I was. I hate to see people talking terribly about unemployed people, bc it's actually hard out there when you don't have a job but the bills keep piling up. The most frustrating thing is going to an interview, doing the whole process, having great interaction with the managers and all that, and yet still you go home and never receive a call back. Life is hard for everyone, employed and unemployed. There's no need to be a dick to those who aren't employed, especially when they're trying to fish but nobody is biting. Have some compassion for others.
Thanks, people treat people on unemployment like they're on welfare. What people don't know is that you pay money into employment via taxes so you might as well take advantage if you need it, just like receiving social security once you need it.
The shitty thing about being on unemployment is despite receiving checks, the search for a job is way harder than when you do have a job. I unfortunately lost my job at Comcast due to not meeting their unrealistic sales quota and they fired me when I do good.
did good*
but the really hard part is, I've been going through A LOT of interviews, just in my few months of being unemployed, I would get a lot of face to face interviews, even ask people I knew at the companies what to expect for the interviews to feel prepared, having good interviews, and a good impression with the managers, HR, etc only to get a call/email back saying I'm not "qualified" enough or they just went with other candidates.
And what's even more frustrating is not even getting feedback as to why you weren't chosen. It's like you could have spent all that time preparing and not know the one thing or two that hurt your chances. It's like how are we supposed to improve ourselves if we don't know what we're doing wrong that isn't blatantly obvious to us?
And besides being on unemployment is nothing to brag about. Sure, I got a lot of free time but it gets old after awhile and while I don't working excessively, it still gives me something to do and it costs money to do a lot of the activities I enjoy. Plus I do not like telling dates that I'm unemployed. However, I explain that I left my job because they wanted me to work in a very rough area, which is a partial truth but that sounds better.
