Can we enclose america so they can keep this nasty shit to themselves. Most of the world is sorta getting a grasp on this, albeit still having cases but nowhere near the deaths we were having.
It's true young people have been killed by the virus they've also been killed by the flu and many other things but anybody that thinks this is going away when they get the vaccine half the people in United States won't take the vaccine so do we spend the rest of our life lockdown?//?
The real purpose at the beginning of the lockdown was to delay people rushing to the hospitals before they were prepared for them At least that was my understanding and since big lockdown is hurting killing destroying the economics of the United States
It's my opinion we would have been better off as a country if we would have completely opened up right at the beginning maybe not in hot spots but the thing is the majority of the people or of the age that most of the time it does not kill them so if they got the virus and then there are mean and the majority of those people got it then the virus would die out at least that's my understanding
It is my opinion that to open up and then lock back down what's about the stupidest thing we could have done because we allowed people out some of which got it exposed and we say go back home and lock down with your older parents our grandparents to me that's stupid
@kemo56 "The real purpose at the beginning of the lockdown was to delay people rushing to the hospitals before they were prepared for them" spot on, you can only delay a virus until mass production of a vaccine.
"It's my opinion we would have been better off as a country if we would have completely opened up right at the beginning " That's the approach Italy initially took, their health care system got overwhelmed. The Chinese was smart enough to start containment strategy as soon as they could. And they got out of lockdown earlier too. The economy of countries who lockdown earlier isn't affected as much.
"open up and then lock back down what's about the stupidest thing we could have done because we allowed people out some of which got it exposed and we say go back home and lock down with your older parents our grandparents to me that's stupid" open up and not lock back down would lead to the same thing, people would stop going home with their family if there is no lock down? that's retarded.
The right thing to do is early lockdown, then reopen, and continue with mitigation strategies (social distancing, contact tracing etc), and short lockdowns if further outbreaks happen. This is the common sense approach to stopping pandemics, supported by data too (but for political reasons, many people were against it)
https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-020-2405-7 "We estimate that across all 11 countries combined, between 12 and 15 million individuals were infected with SARS-CoV-2 up to 4 May 2020, representing between 3.2% and 4.0% of the population. Our results show that major non-pharmaceutical interventions—and lockdowns in particular—have had a large effect on reducing transmission"
Of course no country is using lockdown as a standalone permanent solution, it's the initial strategy to drive Rt below 1 and control the spread of the disease. The sooner you do it, the quicker you can lift it and carry out further mitigation strategies. Those who think people coming home in a situation with low Rt (lockdown, reopen, then lockdown) is the same as people coming home in a situation with extremely high Rt (no lockdown at all) are statistically illiterate people. Read here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basic_reproduction_number to learn how important it is to drive this parameter below 1. I guess this is how the US fucked up this badly, poor education + polarizing politics.
I truly wish there was a cohesive set of rules on how to proceed with things like this rather than just let every single school, county and city decide because we aren't islands unto ourselves which is what people think they are up against this virus and they fail every time.

you can suffer heart or brain damage even if you survive, probably doesn't matter to old people but young people need their brains

Well plenty of teens feel motivated to do things they are told to do.

Yep nothing will happen
