"Success is not final; failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts."
-- Winston S. Churchill
A person's life is like a giant mosaic; a combination of thousands of tiles of different colors and textures. And in the end, our life's mosaic will portray how we choose to spend each day. It's very easy to make the blunder of comparing ourselves to those around us; our friends, neighbors, colleagues, relatives, etc., especially on social media where everyone seems to be living in a utopia. I hope my first myTake will serve as a reminder to those who read it to live and think in terms of 24-hour tiles. Let's make the best out of each and every day that we live, and I promise you the result will be a successful, happy, and fulfilling life.
1- Wake up early.
Early mornings are my favorite part of the day. They are quiet, peaceful, and energizing. They provide you with the clarity that you need to kickstart your day and make the best out of it.
2- Exercise.
Exercising for 30 to 60 mins a day not only keeps you physically healthy, it also has proven benefits in terms of keeping you calmer, happier, and more confident. This does not necessarily mean you have to be jacked. An early morning jog is more than enough to boost your metabolism, and give you that extra push to crush your day.
3- Eat healthy.
We are what we eat. Consuming a wholesome and balanced diet fuels our brains and bodies for maximal capacity. Finding the right balance might take time, but the benefits are real.
4. Read.
Read for half an hour everyday. Reading not only helps with increasing one's knowledge, vocabulary, and comprehension, it also helps reduce stress symptoms, aids in sleep readiness, and prevents cognitive decline as we age. Reading a mixed variety of books is one of the best ways to stimulate the brain, improve writing prowess, and sharpen analytical thinking skills.
4- Give. "What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others." - PericlesLiving selfishly to satisfy one's needs and wants will never give us complete fulfillment and satisfaction. In fact, lending a helping hand to someone in need is one of life's greatest joys. Karma is real. Do good and good will come back to you.
5- Rest but don't quit.
Life is a marathon and not a sprint. By learning how to rest effectively on a daily basis, we preclude burnout, and we actually follow through with our goals and endeavors to their completion. Schedule daily breaks for reflecting, unwinding, and embracing gratitude. Don't feel guilty because you rest.
6- Accomplish one big task everyday.
Whether it's career related or not, we all have big tasks that we keep procrastinating on. By adding one big task to your daily to-do list, and finishing that task first thing in the morning, you feel accomplished, and more confident day after day.
7- Learn new skills daily.
Whether it's something related to your career, a hobby, a foreign language, or a simple 10-min LinkedIn Learning course, learning new skills on a daily basis will pay dividends and will add to your skillsets.
8- Grow your network. “Everyone you meet knows something you don't know, but need to know, learn from them.” Emily RiceThat does not mean that you have to be the most extroverted person in the room. Meet new people according to your own lifestyle and on your own pace. Interchange knowledge and opportunities.
9- Nurture your soul. We are mind, heart, flesh, and soul. Knowledge satisfies the mind, love satisfies the heart, food and water satisfy flesh, and gratitude satisfies the soul. Find time each day for embracing gratitude and for praying and connecting with what you believe in.
10- Press the reset button.
Take 10 minutes every night to clear your desk, organize your home, and prepare for a new day filled with new opportunities and great potential.
