Considering it's somewhere near a minimum wage job, it isn't going to be hard. Your smartphone is more complex than a cash register, and most large grocery store chains have self-checkouts. If I can scan my own groceries without ever having a cashier job in my life, so can anyone else.
All you need to do is scan barcodes. No need for basic math. The cash register calculates the change (unless credit/debit is used). You may need to remember some numbers for bulk item codes, but even if you forget, there's a book handy which has all the codes.
So in terms of skill, you basically need none. No education required. However, that does not mean you won't get stressed out from annoying customers.

Looks won't have anything to do with it. People don't care, they just want to pay and get out. They don't care who the teller is as long as there is one available. If one isn't getting as many customers it's probably because of the station they are at. People are lazy so #1 is going to be far busier then #12. As far as the job, I'm sure the job itself is easy, dealing with customers constantly all day long I'm sure isn't easy some days. Get all different kinds of people and some have nothing better to do then complain.
Well, Walmart is pretty much the devil but I hear that stocking is okay.
There's only 5 in the whole store, so I would imagine so.
If you passed 5th grade Algebra, you should be fine.

I bet you can learn some things doing it. You would deal with some people in grumpy moods that may act inconsiderate to you, but you'd also meet lots of nice customers too.
I'm not sure if looks matter regarding how many customers you'd get. I think people would look for the line with shortest wait. What do you mean "cashiers who look good and don't get much customers in their lane?" lol! If they look good, they'll get MORE customers!
Honestly, ANY job is a fine first job. Just do it, do it well and diligently and then move on to something a bit more challenging. After all, pretty soon all the cashier jobs will be done by computer anyway (already happening in a lot of stores) so it's not exactly a career path, but that's not the point. You just need to get a job to get some experience.lol ususally the better looking ones get more customers. it´s not a hard job as in physically demanding... but as in most jobs that deal with customerst, it can be hard and exhausting to deal with unfriendly assholes.
So hard. I'm still completing my doctorate studies in hospitality. hoping I can intern soon.
For a woman? lololo hell no. They discriminate heavily
You might sore muscles from repetitive movements. And sore feet.
