It’s the only place hiring people my age to work and I want to work to make money and help her? She’s been struggling with money during the pandemic.
I also found a job at Chick-fil-A but I have to wait till I’m 16 to apply since they’re not hiring people my age at the one near my house.
She’s fine with me working at Chick-fil-A but not McDonald’s? Aren’t they both fast food places, I don’t get the difference other than one sells tastier food. She says I’ll get more experience working at Chick-fil-A?

I also really want to get out of the house and talk to humans face to face. I’m fully vaccinated so I should be pretty safe, so getting Covid is not the big problem.
I ask found this other job hiring over the summer at six flags where you could basically help out around the park. I REALLY the job but my mom didn’t want me to sinc one time we went there and had a real bad experience with racists but they were just visitors not employees.

As a chick fil a employee myself, I definitely recommend working at cfa than Mcdonald's for numerous of reasonings. Like cfa has a better system of setting everything up, like they have better management than all the other fast food restaurants I've worked at previously; 100%. They will train you better and give you a lot of experience, and you can move up quicker in the company if you show hard work. In other restaurants I have worked at like Torchy's Tacos, you can't move up at all unless you specifically applied for the position you are wanting (such as management, lead supervisor etc). Chick fil a is a tough job for sure, its very fast paced and can be mentally draining but it is worth working there. They pay well too. Also if you don't tell them how much you want to be paid hourly, they will set you at the standard $9.50/hr, So when you are describing yourself during the interview and tell them what experience you have, then based your experience and abilities on what you think you should get paid at. With my experience, I asked for $10.50/hour.

You might feel proud about having a job, earning your own money, etc but she probably has prexisting beliefs about the safety, Quality, and reputation. We forget that our parents also have to interact with other parents and their parents, who will judge them for their parenting. So while it sucks for you to not work, it sucks less for them, having to defend their kid working at a 'non-reputable or unsafe' place.
Your parents could also feel shame about 'needing help financially" and are not letting you work because (again) their own feelings.
It could also be, that your parents think you are too young to work. Some parents do prefer 16 as the marker for paid employment.
Don't worry about what your mom wants. You have a strong work ethic it sounds like and you should apply yourself. That early experience can help you appreciate money and others who struggle. Not just that but it will give you independence. Don't do what I did and go spending it all. Keep like 20% of your income for fun stuff and put the rest away for a rainy day. I'm glad you want to go this route. It will toughen you up as you put up with other people's shit sometimes. Some people hate that idea and I did too. But over time learning how to please others, even when they are pissy or assholes can be rewarding. I worked for ACME for 6 years and eventually the whole community knew about me, loved me, and always came through my checkout line. So much so that they wouldn't go to other cashiers. On Christmas I was the only register fully opened because people were willing to wait just so they could get a chance to talk with me. :)
I think she is just bothered with the imagery around working at McDonald's. People have an image that it is the bottom rung on the ladder in terms of jobs. So I just say do what you feel. Well, if she doesn't mind that is.
My first job formal job was being an A/V tech while going to college. So I didn't get a real pay check until much older.
I think one possible reason is she is worried the social crowd at McDonalds will be bad such as drug users or prostitutes working there, and that makes sense cause there has been a drug dealing problem at the McDonald’s I go to where drug dealers go there to sell illegal products, one tried to talk to me and I had to avoid him. She might also be worried about men in their 60s hitting on you or stalking you because you refuse to date them, she cares more about your safety than she does about your ability to earn money for the family.
I don't know but at 15 you could make heaps more cash under the table as a babysitter, pet/house sitter, or some other independent businesswoman type job. Rates for nannies here are around $25/hour, but even if you made $15/hour that's as good or better than a fast food restaurant, and your work will be a lot easier and you are getting more skills than in fast food. Fast food is really just customer service, and some people do that job and learn nothing. Working with kids or taking care of pets or a home you can enrich your life a lot more.
I had a friend who did a lot of pet and house sitting in her community and she made a lot of networking connections for later in her career, and she ended up with so many people wanting her to house sit that she didn't really even need to pay rent for a place, she just kept some stuff at her mom's but got paid to stay the night at other (rich) people's houses. Who often invite you to eat whatever you like and enjoy their really nice houses!

You are very young. Maybe join an after school club? As for why your mom was ok with Chick Fil-A and not McDonalds was maybe because McDonalds attracts a lot more craziness with the people who go there. Sure maybe Six Flags is a good idea for the summer. There are racist people anywhere and everywhere by the way. My advice to you is to place your thoughts as far into the future as you can. It is a very good thing to do when you are young. It has done me a tremendous amount of good. I'm only 23 by the way. Also don't worry so much about meeting other people face to face. Just focus on you.
hello! we don't have Chick-fil-A here but we do have McDonald's. I worked there for a long time - every workplace has it's ups and downs but I learnt many skills there and went into management also. A lot of people look down on those who work at McDonald's but comparing it to any other fast food workplace in my area I would of learnt more skills at McDonald's. Have a talk with her and tell her you are wanting to help her out but also gain some experience hopefully she'll come around :)
I think McDonalds kinda has a bad reputation for being a “burger flipping” job. Which I disagree with because I do not knock gainful employment. How long until you turn 16? Would mom compromise with you doing McDonalds now and Chick-fil-a when you turn 16? Also, racists are everywhere. She can’t discount 6 flags simply because there were some ignorant people there one time. But clearly that triggered her. Must have been bad. I am sorry.
Aw hell yeah, get a job wherever you can. I take it she wouldn't want you working at McDonald's due to the creeps that you'll encounter. Purchase some mace, learn how to use it, and keep it on you at all times. If you can, I'd even suggest getting a stun gun. Easy to use and works like a charm!
She wants to have more control over you. A job gives you independence and power, and that increases the chances that you won't be dependant on her. People trash fast food but a job's a job and that money really adds up fast. If it's that bad, you can simply look for a better job while working at Mcdonalds.
Chick-Fil-A is a nicer place, classier, and it's a business that's centered on Christianity. The Six Flags job sounds fine also.
McDonalds just doesn't have a very good reputation as an employer. Lots of drama with upset customers and the employees are always stressed and rushing around. It's best to pass on that. I think it's because of the low prices that they attract the worst types of customers.
Because jobs like McDonald's are a good place to start your career. It gives good customer relations, money handling, job experience in general and you may be able to get promoted to manager which looks even better on your resume.
I think McDonald's has a reputation to be a really shitty job in general. I think in recent years they have added a lot of benefits to working there but I never worked there so I don't know for sure.
Chick-fil-A Is more family oriented and closed on Sundays. Anyone I know who has worked at McDonald’s has gone through a lot and worked crazy hours. A lot of them are 24 hours. I wood sit down with her and get more information if you can. She could have a personal reason to why it is ok to work one and not the other.
Not McDonald’s, it was another company that was hiring: six flags, I think she also might not have wanted me to work there because the parks dirty most of the time 🤷🏽♀️
It's probably because of the stigma around it, she's afraid that's all you ever will be..
To be honest I think it's admirable that you want to start earning your own money and taking care of your self. Most people your age are too selfish for that.

You're 15 so please grab any job you get. I regret listening to my parents. I wish I had done part time jobs in fast food chain, beauty salons or cafe because till now I would have saved up a lot. Next year, I'm just gonna directly apply for my dream job I'm scared AF with zero confidence due to never working before. I'll be 23. I was lost in the school and college system. No wonder I'm so delayed.
McDonald's is mediocre and your dealing with low caliber of people expecting high service from crappy food but if you wanna work there your choice a lot of famous people started out at Mcdonalds i believe Wiz Khalifa said he did and a few other celeberties
As all parentes we want better for our children. Mom wants you to get a better job above the rest of the entry level job she is afraid you will become stuck there. Amazon offers some pretty good jobs with benifits and Costco also offer pretty good benifits. Try not settle for just any job.

I think you could work at either McDonald's or Six Flags and do a really good job. You're a smart young lady. I think your mom is just reluctant to let you go to work because you're her baby and she still wants to protect you.
An in house job would be better for you like babysitting, pet caring etc or whatever the job you plan to have in the future, you can work in a place related to it.
Shit happenes everywhere. I worked as a lifeguard and was subpeonaed to testify in a sexual abuse case when I was 16.. Shit happens in the real wold, the faster you learn how to deal with it the better.

I believe both places have programs that help people get through school after working there. Some scholarships or grant programs. Which to her, will be highly beneficial when you start college.
How is working at McDonald’s not respectable? That just seems like a classist issue, I know McDonald’s is a bad company that pays poverty wages with no benefits but that’s just the company not the workers. There are other countries where McDonald workers are paid livable fair wages so this problems exclusive to the US

It isn’t that she’s failing to make money, it’s because she’s a teacher and teachers are just really underpaid for the work they do. Especially during covid where housing costs more, we basically ran out of all our savings during the pandemic due to her being laid off her old school but now she’s trying her best again do I want to help In any way I can
She was going to law school but changed because she got pregnant with me and wanted to be a teacher for the health insurance + holidays off to spend time with me. Teachers need to be paid more tbh, public schools are really underpaid
Public schools are a failure from design. Public schools are for people, who will make low money. Public school isn't meant for teachers or their students to achieve a middle class lifestyle. Forget about it. Any parent, that very much loves their child and it's future success would send their kids to a private school.
Well the average person can’t afford private school. And the issue is much deeper, the government has been taking much needed funding from schools for years.
But at least you realize the biggest indicator for someone’s wealth is how much wealth they were born into unfortunately
I mean objectively speaking it does make sense, doesn't it? It is up to us to rise up from the ground up. I wasn't born into wealth either (in fact I was born dirt poor and went to public school too but I funded my private institute tuition costs and expenses for the most part myself). How? By hustling and busting my ass. Like you plan to work for McDonalds under hellish conditions and inhuman low pay, dedication (and perhaps a 2. nd job or more than 40 hours of work time) is required to get there eventually. It almost means marrying jobs, going to bed with unfinished work, waking up with work projects in your mind etcetera.
Nobody said it's easy. Seeing the path is easy. Walking it is something else. I aim to continue studying in a private university and fund the tuition myself (if I don't get any grants or scholarships based on whatever conditions Germany might have). Most wealthy people weren't born into wealth either.
About one-third of Americans believe that they will most likely become a millionaire in their lifetime, only 8.8% of the US population are millionaires out of (329 million) of the adult population, billionaires make up only 3.5% these numbers are extremely low.
Not to mention, the vast majority of these people are rich from wage theft and exploiting workers. That’s why as the average American is struggling to make ends meet, wealthy mega corporations are doing just fine if not amazing during the pandemic.
It’s a sad reality, and It’s one my generation are going to be forced to deal with.
That’s not true it’s the only place hiring people your age where the labor won’t be too tough but if that’s not for you try a non fast food restaurant or retail
