Where is the line between being a Karen and being a customer with a legitimate complaint for you?

Is it the nature of the complaint, the manner the person presents the complaint or a mix of both for you?

The approach and attitude.

If someone genuinely has a concern or is dissatisfied, I'm happy to listen and do what I can.

If they come at me Karen like, all of a sudden the Manager just left for the day and I'm not authorized to do anything. Oh nooooooooo. /s

Customers who recognize they are customers to a business, and I am just an employer, get great service. If I can't fix the problem, I will call my manager and we'll figure out a compromise.

Treat your budtender with respect and I'll set you up with phenomenal deals. Treat me badly and you're getting the worst weed we have - trust me, bruh, it's all we have in stock. Order comes in next week.

I think it's about tone mostly. It's okay to voice complaints in a friendly and it's important to be respectful with the staff.

I work at a bar. We have this one costumer who regularly misbehaves and apparently expects premium service for himself. A few weeks ago he barged into the kitchen and screamed at my coworker who was cleaning dishes that he was waiting for his beer since 10 minutes. That's what i would consider being a karen.

Most complaints we get are nice. The people are respectful when voicing their complaints. They get a free shot or something and everyone is happy

Hence the reason I asked. No matter how nice or professional a server is patrons like that in my experience would give the famous line of "I'm never ordering from here again" but low and behold they are back the very next day as if you were watching the movie "groundhog day" until enough is enough where the manager) owner will step in and inform the arrogant asshole to find another establishment due to zero tolerance for harassment

It's mostly the manner. I see more and more people screeching like banshees. It used to be alarming to see someone go off the rails, but now it seems to be turning into normal behavior.
