Have you ever had an authority figure in your life consistently mispronounce a word?

Had a Prof in College, really great Prof, I loved learning from him, but he was a classic mis-pronouncer of many things. For "ask" it was "ax", "sherbet" was "sherbert", "Miami" was "May am I", you get the idea. Never sure whether he did it on purpose just for giggles or if it was real.
I wouldn't consider any of the people in the photos above to be authorities on anything really. Going clockwise from top left: a singer, an ex-president, an actress, and... I don't know the last one, the one with the orgasm face.
Yeah but I'm pretty rebellious I give just the right amount of push back to get away with it. Most bosses I had and anyone above ranks, don't really bother with me cause I do the job RIGHT everything. That's why I get away with it lol so if it did annoy me I might say something haha
The best project manager I ever had was originally from New York City, and his Bronx accent often mispronounced words, mainly inserting an "r" into the word.
I “star eyed” this. No idea what it means but I mean well!
@AviatorTom Oh gosh... Any word that ends with an "a", they will put an "r" at the end. It sounds weird unless you are from there I guess.

You mean like when Dubya would say "nucuelar weapons"? LOL
You reminded me of my most favorite Dubya quote of all time! Thank you for that.
“Fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — ya can't get fooled again.”

He was once asked to explain what it meant to be a "sovereign Indian nation". His answer was " well, it means that you're a nation, and you're sovereign." Until Trump came along, he was the dumbest President in the last 50 years.
He was kind of a sweetheart though, a bumbling idiot. I always felt like he meant well. I never felt like he intended to harm as Trump did.
He never "meant well", it was part act, part pure buffoon. He had his business financed by the Saudi's and was essentially the first President to be appointed, rather than elected, to the position. He was Cheney's puppet for the most part.
Not a manager who I personally worked with, but I knew one who would pronounce "specific" as "pacific"...
So does my 6 yo!
@loves2learn lmfao 😂😂😭
same!
And there was a vice president of a company that I used to work for. When referring to the "tenets", or main principles, of the company, he called them "tenants"... That was such a serious company that anyone who saw that would have fallen out of their chair. LOL
My current boss isn't a native English speaker so yes but I don't mind.
That is different
My mom always says "stoled" instead of STOLE (as in the past tense of steal). It takes everything in me to not correct her. 😭
My husband adds erroneous “t’s” to words. Let me explain: across-t, regimen-t, strewn-t, watercress-t. 🤣 No joke, we had a family friend ask if he pronounces it “penis-t.” Better believe we do now! 🤣🤣🤣
It is funny. I laugh inside every time he says it. 🤣
My MIL pronounces “g”s in words. Like han-g-er. My grandma says “warsh” and “garsh.” 🤣
@loves2learn hahahhaha penis-t
@exitseven glad you got a kick out of that 🤣
@loves2learn my old ex-GF from Oklahoma used to say warsh.
@exitseven 🤣🤣🤣
Yes, one in particular. He would say "pacific" instead of "specific".
My 6 year old says that. 😂🥰
It happens all the time. You just have to let it go.
George Bush used to say "nucular" instead of "nuclear"
Indeed he did. He also said “Fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — ya can't get fooled again.”

i had a manager i didn’t like always completely get my last name wrong even when i corrected them about it several times lol
So relatable. I had VIPs of a company (three of them) that I worked with daily spell my first name wrong for 5 years. I corrected them 2 or 3 times then just lived with it and cringed for years.
“Communative property” vs “Commutative property.”
People mispronounce names of towns/cities by adding letters in the middle of the name that don’t belong.
Oh yes, my boss always mispronounce names of clients and people I have to contact… so I usually get their name wrong and they have to correct me 🙄
I haven’t noticed any really horrible mispronunciations, but it hurts my eyes to see it spelled “definately” instead of “definitely”.
Hurts my eyes too, friend.
I'm axing you to clarify that please :)
@Red_Arrow Xlent !! Glad to be of service.
LMAO! 🤣🤣🤣
I used to know a Senior Manager who wouldn't say "specific". He said "pacific" instead. He was really dumb, he must have got his job through sheer brass neck.
That is so funny! That is what I posted also! Yeah this guy... I always said that he got promoted because he was tall and looked like a manager.
My dad still says ingregious instead of egregious. To be fair tho he doesn't say it very often.
Yes, I had a boss that said: "lime" for time or "axed" for asked.
I don't know about authority figure but G. W. always said Nucular instead of nuclear!
My father has mispronounced Chicago his whole life. He calls it " Chicargo".
Warden, pronounces it as wear den
I’m from the south so probably lol
Yes, and it drives me batty.
I have, yes. Very disconcerting.
