Why does my boss praise me in front of others (even if I'm not around) despite hating me?

My boss can't stand me for an unknown reason, oftentimes ignores me on purpose and makes passive aggressive remarks but oftentimes praises me. I have already talked with other coworkers about his behaviour and no one knows why he is so standoffish only to me. Everyone else seems to think that he is the sweetest and coolest person on the planet.

It could be something about your personality that he doesn’t vibe with compared to others. I had a boss like that too and he was so kind to everyone else but I always seemed to be treated bad. I do if it’s like a new person thing (I wasn’t even really new, just newer than everyone else), I’d even wondering if it was a race thing. But he spoke highly of me to people, about my work ethic especially.

I was wondering if it could have been racial discrimination too but I'm not sure. In the beginning he was very friendly but one day he suddenly switched to being rude and avoidant. A few months later he implied sexual interest and started being friendlier. When he realized I would not sleep with him he ignored me even more than before

Hearing your story makes me wonder what’s up with these bosses, because mine was so similar. I genuinely thought it was a race thing after a point because he was pretty chill the first like 2 1/2 months then flipped the switch and started being so condescending and rude as opposed to other people. Like I’d walk into the break room and he’d be chatting it up with other people but I never got the same treatment. It also felt so clique-mentality, everyone trying to kiss ass, maybe it’s the fact that I didn’t and that’s why he was so rude, I don't know. I also feel like at a point he was flirty, mostly bc he’d be suddenly all in my space, leaning over my shoulder, lingering around, compliments, saying a dress looked really good on me, and just odd stuff. I didn’t respond much, I didn’t know what to make of that. Then boom he was back to being cold and demanding, rude, etc but would say good things about me to others. So I don't know what’s up with these bosses, but if Covid 2020 didn’t close my job down I would’ve left.
