Is it okay to let on that I looked up a colleague online if it's to ask about a book I then discovered that they wrote?

Is there a diplomatic/discrete way of asking a colleague about a book that I found out that she wrote as a result of Google searching her? The book is non-fiction and work related, but maybe I would be showing too much interest by letting on that I researched her?

It should be okay if you focus on interest in her book. She might be flattered.
She'll probably ask how you know about it. So, then you can say that you looked her up on-line. I don't see why she would be threatened about you looking her up. It's all public information.

Just say you heard about it from someone else or that you heard she wrote a book, then ask her about the book. Boom, easy 😉

I don't mean too be an ass but there are 2 different spellings of discreet. Spelled like that it means on the down low. Discrete is a physics (usually) term that means separate- as in not in continuum.

Hmm, I would buy the book and bring it to work. And then be like I just read this book and the author has the same name as you. Then watch her reaction.
