We’ve all been there. It can get annoying, a salesman knocks on your door, and you immediately feel annoyed. “What the fuck are they trying to sell me now?” you think. Now, here’s the issue… for me, I AM the salesman. I have a job to do, and granted, if I do it well and get a promotion, I can make about 120k a year, after about a year in my company. That’s good money to be made at 23. So, my goal is to interest you in my product. Now, we have a script. Our script is MEANT for you to say no, so we can draw out your insecurities of our purchase (home improvement, and it is expensive.) Once we draw out the reasoning behind you saying no, we work with you to convince you otherwise. How do I approach you without pissing you off?

When sales people come to my door I immediately tell them I'm not interested. They only get one chance. If they don't shut up after I tell them I'm not interested I will get hostile. When I tell the to leave, they'd better do it or risk getting arrested. Because I will press charges against them and they will go to jail.
@WindAtMyBack Accurate.
Let me help you out from my point of view. Put up a no soliciting sign. It’s court binding, and we’ll get fined or even lose our license to do door to door sales. But jail time won’t happen. A cop will come out with a warning not to come on that property again. A no soliciting sign will help you out.
I shouldn't need to put a sign out. I shouldn't have to put up with asshole salesmen in the first place. Not at home or anywhere else.
If I press trespassing charges I think the cops will have no choice but to arrest the person.
Trespassing charges aren’t yours to press until you have given a direct order not to come on to the property. You owning the property have the right to tell me to leave, which if I don’t is trespassing. And again, no. We can lose our license and get a fine but no jail time. There’s a lot of things I don’t feel I should need to do but that’s not how it works. Put a sign up, no salesmen, simple. I’m giving you a solution, so you either deal with salesmen, or put a sign up. Plenty of customers are just moronic and ignore serious issues.
Actually it depends on where you live whether or not a sign is legally needed to pres trespassing charges. Fir example some states in the US require a sign, others do not.

"I’m giving you a solution"
And I give the salesman an easy solution. As soon as I say I'm not interested, they should immediately walk away. To do otherwise is just being an asshole and I will treat them as such.
As I already said, it becomes trespassing if I tell them to leave and they don't. And yes they can go to jail for it. In my state it's up to 30 days in jail and a fine. For a first offense they would be lenient, but they would still go to jail and have it on their permanent record.
Don't try to put this on the customer when the salesmen act like total asshole, liars and con artists. Salesmen rationalize what they are doing but customers don't agree. This is why salesmen have such horrible reputations.
My ex fiancé is a salesman. A very good one. I think the first thing you can do is live the best first impression, not only sell a product but sell yourself to those people. So that they want to keep in touch even after you’ve left.
I think you need to be very charismatic, my ex is really charismatic and confident I think that’s why he succeed in it.

"How do I approach you without pissing you off?"
Thats easy, don't show up without an appointment, and if I say no, don't try to convince me otherwise.
Your entire job description is pissing people off, you're like the real world version of ads on youtube videos.
