What's a good answer to give people who pester you abput being single?

I'm often asked why I'm single and for some reason this year it's bugging me. I'm not sure how to answer. Whether it's part of some guy's way of flirting or a comment made by folks in the community who know me and as that along with "don't you *want* to be happy?" I just shrug. What's a nice short answer that's not rude?

In my opinion the best answer is none at all. Seriously the second someone used to pester me about relationships, I’d just smile and quietly keep doing whatever I was doing. It will for sure create an awkward air, and that’s the point. For them to sit with their own line of unwarranted questioning and see that I’m not interested in talking about it. That’s a boundary and there’s nothing rude about setting it.

That’s it. Then you just stare at them. Don’t explain. Don’t laugh. Let them sit there and try to figure out if you’re joking. They’ll either laugh awkwardly or change the subject. Either way, you win.

If they keep pushing, like “no really, don’t you want to be happy?”

hit them with this:

"Already am happy. That’s what scares you."

I once stayed single so long I started getting mail addressed to “Future Crazy Cat Man, Esquire.” Best title I ever had.
