There is no doubt on this one - math. To be sure I was no athlete, but for whatever reason I managed good grades in gym class. By contrast, math is what stood between a full ride scholarship to college for me and the half-ride scholarship I ultimately received upon graduation from high school.
It was "math-phobia" that was born in the early days of academic career. I was generally a scholarly kid and a reader. So when I started school reading was a breeze, but my mother had not been, herself, a math student and so really never introduced me to it.
To wit, the first time a kindergarten teacher put a math test - simple addition problems - in front of me, I remember quietly freaking out and I have never recovered. To this day I carry a calculator even when I swim.
My best math grade ever was a "B" - in high school, mostly because I liked the teacher I think. For the most part, though, it was "C's" and "D's."
So I went, after graduating college, into a career in politics. Thus the national debt we have to this day.
The only subject I bombed in high school was Spanish. I took it in summer school to pass. I didn't take high school seriously and would also cut classes to party. In the end, I didn't get excellent grades but I passed and got my diploma.
I went straight to community college part time after high school, but had kind of the same attitude when it came to the general ed classes. I did well in the ones I liked, though, especially the electives.
I quite college when I got a good corporate job. I later went back to complete my AA degree when I was around 30 years old. At that point, my attitude had changed and I got the top grade in all of my courses. I enjoyed college a lot when I was more mature.
bomb means fail? strange never heard of that in my entire life.
I failed algebra 2 years because the teacher I had did not know how to explain to me properly. When my sister explained it to me it was so easy but I had already failed, I learned how to do it fast just with 10 mins or less of my sister explaining. When this happened to me I realized that sometimes when some kids don't understand something perhaps those kids just need to have multiple people explain it in different ways, and it's just a matter of which way you understand and not because you don't want to understand, the mind works in different ways for different people.
anyway that was the only class I was always failing which made me believe that I hated math but it was wrong, because when I learned it I liked it!
bomb meant fail back in my time in high school.
yes, a different teacher can make all the differences, kids should know that. girls can learn different than boys as well... thriving from social support.
oh I thought it was a new thing I had never heard of it.
well yeah that's what I learned from that, good thing we have internet now that we can search different methods etc.
I failed gym purposely.
I failed bio. because we were too busy making fun of the teacher.
I failed school period.
I am so glad I didn’t listen 1/2 of the time…otherwise I wouldn’t have been as successful as I am today.
School is structured to follow rules and get a job.
I need more than a job to keep me enjoying life/busy and feel good about who I am with what I do outside of my job.
Glad it’s working out.
Thank you for being my partner in crime. Together we will conquer!! Hahahaa!! Ready for the challenges? 😘😝
😂 so right on! xox
Yea[h, don't need an education to be the school janitor.
@DubiousIntentions we have two janitors at my job. One very successful janitor. The other not so much. They both make very good money for what they do.
Aside from having an education…one must also know how to make good life choices.

I was always much better in writing than math or things like biology, chemistry or physics. My best grade was in political science. I was good in that so if I bombed something than that, but I also had the advanced course in English (for me foreign language) which wasn't bad either. My second foreign language was Nederlands which I wasn't that good in. I could have great in german if I wouldn't hated poetry analysis. Technically what I learned in german is now my job so... yeah.
very cool, your mind strong in language. why you think you wre so good in political science and what do you see that benig about as core strengths? Negotiation, communication?
I never real "bombed" any course. In high school, my worst subject was History. In college, I was given a barely passing grade in Thermodynamics because the instructor didn't like me, and didn't want to see me again if he failed me... I actually understood the material, just preferred doing it my way, not the way he wanted it.
you are smart enough or creative enough to offend the teachers ego, well done! Teachers probably don't like being challenged.
Math. I used to love math but then it got hard as hell... then i hated it. :) I might be wise but math is my weakest subject. If you say
"SR, what's 12x62, plus 18 divided by 2?"
I'm gonna short circut. :)
some people do that in their heads, probably just inadequate training but as well, no your natural ability.
I got kicked out of design for being a no show to classes. Had no interest for me whatsoever but I made up for that with social studies on a higher level - was more relevant to my desired degree.
interesting, whom doesn't like design/creativity? you like more history? what career that lead to?
I like creativity - I didn't like design. History was always one of my favourite subjects. I'm in a Danish wellfare profession called pædagog - I choose to work as a social educator.
that means "nursery school teacher", correct?
my wife and I are visiting denmark this year, coppenhagen. Aarhouse and freetown good places to visit? Any other good places nearby to see?
Thank you
I never failed any subject ever in my school life. Hey I'm an Asian student with strict parents! I can't afford failing lol!
exactly, if you fail, they beat you with a stick and throw you to the dogs:). We lost that discipline in the USA, not allowed to touch kids or even punish them. we are doomed.
Yeah, they'll surely beat me up if I fail in my test. Which fortunately I never did. But after one hour when I would be sobbing in a corner they'll ask, "You want chicken?" Lol. Asian parents are such, they apologize with food.
i’ve been in highschool for the past 6 years bc i’ve flunked 2x. i failed every class except the classes teachers just passed me up so they wouldn’t get me next year. hoping things gets better but i have no motivation ❤️
uh oh... something is wrong at home and in the heart. do share, lets fix that. you've got some good experience here to help.
You are having a hard time getting out of bed in the morning or you just don't care anymore because of continual failure?
What kind of support and encouragement are getting support from your family at home and school?
@midnightmoon05
I bombed Chemistry and Algebra. I mean who needs that stuff anyway, right?
98% not useful. used algebra twice in my career. not useful unless doing serious science work. stuff that's important... is not taught at all.
I had a 74 on PE!!!
I hated every second of Calculus and Chemistry! 😡
I barely made it 🤣 but graduated top number 28 out of 400+ students in senior year. I guess my other subjects saved me
A 74 in PE? Graduated in the top 30? I call bullshit! The whole system is rigged. And you know what else?
L. Femcel. No bitches. Fatherless. Fake Js. Ratio.
@TooHot2Care 🤣 74 when I was a sophomore. But what I don’t understand is how I fucking passed calculus and chemistry and physics. 🤣 I hate every second of it in senior year
Honestly? I still don’t get how I passed linear algebra on my last semester in college. I think it’s because the prof liked me. Maybe it’s the same for you? 😂
math. had a tutor and everything by my senior year or i wouldn't have passed.
in college, yeah i passed every single math class because i didn't want to deal with that ever again.
funny thing is most of it is not needed and a waste of time. I guess it's good to know it exists to value others abilities.
of course it's not needed and a waste of time. in high school i was mentally not okay so it's no wonder my grades were slipping. in college, i paid to be there so i was NOT going to fail lol
Never failed a class in my life, but my grades were a bit down in the first few months of junior year. Thankfully, I took some extra classes and got it covered.
I didn’t totally suck at it, I just lost interest in the middle because the transition from 10th grade to 11th was pretty big and everything seemed so difficult. I was also preparing for a competitive exam, so I was super stressed.
I’m now a freshman in college, studying medicine. Classes here are very very different from those I had in high school. You have to remember every single thing you study, revise the same thing over and over, work 10x harder than you did when you were in school and sacrifice everything, including 7 hours of sleep, going out with friends/family in the weekends etc. You’re always stressed and cranky. I *almost* failed a class in the first semester. I think I’ve gotten the hang of it now. I’m doing much better.
I excelled in English.
Grade 5-7 only A and B.
Grade 8 mostly E.
What changed? The English teacher.
What is "E" stand for? Einstein?
@dubiousintentions
I understand even Eistein was kicked out of class for being a smarty...
www.history.com/.../einsteins-life-facts-and-fiction
I’m just not good at it I’m more of an English gal
what is "it"?
Couldn't stand English and it showed in my grades. But I had to take it. pht!
English is strange.
Reading in sixth grade. The teacher wanted us to read some a chapter in some lame book and write down a plot summary. I was reading Dante by then and neglected to do the plot summary. He gave me a D because he knew I was an avid reader, but he told me I deserved "F."
I failed math because I had a lousy teacher. She explained everything once and only once.
I passed p. e. by the skin of my teeth because I showed up for attendance then cut out
I tried so hard to understand stuff. Anything I grasped was English, Mathematics and Computers. Did not finish anything past the 7th grade.
wonder why. it's ok, hope you got to a better place. my wife failed most and is highly successful with masters degree, she found ways. developmental issues, undiscovered issues and wreck havoc.
there've always been subjects that i fluctuated in during school but did really well in my final exams in - but the one subject that stuck out for me in being bad in BOTH was graphics (design and technology basically)
Organic Chem was damn near the ned of me. I have never worked that hard in my life for an A and almost didn't get it. To this day I hate chemistry.
My lowest mark was History, however, I came to love that class in the latter grades of High School and did a lot better. I always did well in the math/sciences.
I was a decent student, average, not super exceptional. But I didn’t do well with Calculus. I just squeaked by enough to get the credit I needed to graduate.
gym I skipped gym all the time because I didnxt want to sweat my makeup off and I used to cake it on with a glam look everyday. Now I only wear mascara
Gym class because my friend was fat and I was always paired with him. That and my family couldn't afford skates to us kids.
I cheated throughout all 2 of my science courses in high school and got 70s. But English is were I'd sometimes struggle.
I had4 years of high school French. I am lucky if I can order Soup DuJour in a restaurant
I took Latin 1 & 2 and can't speak a word of it.
I didn't do good in any classes so I guess a bombed in all of them. 🤷🏼♀️
I was good at everything except math.
Math.. I always skipped school a lot so missed a lot of math lessons...
All of them. I hated every second of school and quit when I was old enough. I’ve never regretted it. I still did my dream job for my dream company without a GED and proved everyone wrong
none... I just quit college all the same
Did bad in math all the way through.
Math and french were my weaknesses
Bomb classes what does it mean?
"do poorly and fail"... apparently this was terminology from my generation in usa and not a global known term.
Oh okay... I was useless a PE, which I think you Americans call Gym.
Math.
Math
English literature.
@Degenerate lol...
The school
