Expectations- requirements, really, though they don't call them that- of a constant work history. I took time out of the workforce to tend to my mother as she was dying of cancer; that's about as legitimate a reason as you're going to find. And when I explain that, they've all agreed- or at least CLAIMED to. But most just see the gap and toss my resume in the trash. Freaking Weberian subhumans.
In many European countries people get a whole month off in the summer. I am having my second year in a row without a vacation. It is really the worst thing about my job. I would gladly work for less money so I could get more time off.

The main problem is all jobs are a business decision. Every single claim of 'family' or 'workplace culture' or anything that tries to convince you you aren't just another cog in the machine will be instantly abandoned the moment the CEO's underlings figure out a way to get your job done without you - which is their only job, so it is inevitable. There is no requirement that 'job creators' create jobs. In fact, their reward structure is built around them eliminating jobs.
This unfortunate fact means pretty much everyone has to look out for themselves. Unions are a good solution to this, so of course those CEOs have generously invested money they are normally very tight with into anti-union propaganda. And it seems to have mostly worked out for them. Unions are a great way to ensure no one is overworked, which is the most common way jobs are eliminated, and that everyone is paid fairly, which is the most common reason jobs are eliminated. Both impede the flow of money to the top and so we have whole industries dedicated to churning out anti-union propaganda..
Too many to count. I'm disabled I can't do a normal job and have a life even if I only live to work and do my best to recover I will burn out. I'm lucky that I live in a country where I get disability and it covers all expenses. I still have the drive to push myself to improve and I want to achieve more and I'm slowly moving forwards everyday but if m mental health gets endangered by working I will always protect myself and sacrifice my job. I'll stay on disability for life if that's what is necessary.
One of the biggest problems is how people think about employers vs employees. Employers are expected to be greedy and squeeze everything out of their employees for the least amount of money that's their job but when employees fight back there's so much prejudice about it. Not in my country here there's a tradition of strong labor unions and people have their heads on straight. But in a lot of other countries people have an automatic bias against strikes and it blows my mind. For instance the questions and the narrative in the media about the strikes in the U. K. are astounding to me. The U. S. is also famous for treating workers like shit.
This is why I’m thankful to be a teacher. Although I don’t get paid over school breaks, it’s such a privilege to be able to have 2 weeks off at Christmas, spring/March break, and nearly 2 months in the summer. People in other professions here don’t typically get those kinds of perks. They often have a more generous salary than I do, but they’re not able to take significant amounts of vacation time.
some jobs aren't being paid enough especially the dirty, dangerous blue-collar jobs like construction, supplies, military, emergency services, factory etc.
People aren't being paid enough relative to their effort put into the jobs & cost of living to live comfortably. This is THE biggest issue & it will remain an issue. We humans aren't meant for higher avenues. We're prone to far too much disorder & injustice. It's inescapable so long as we appoint ourselves as the ones in charge.
Yes I definitely agree that there needs to be more vacation time. It sucks to only get maybe a week off if you're lucky. I don't even get that. Teachers are very lucky despite what they go through with their students and parents.
equate to school? but the goals are different. education is to teach certain ideas while balancing the goals with ability to conce trate with breaks during the day recess and summer vacation long because kids should have fun. in contrast adults already had fun and aren't kids. their job is doing whatever the job description daily.
The biggest problem is that workers cannot have leverage over employers when we have mass immigration combined with outsourcing. This is 100% guaranteed to drive down labor and externalize all the costs of the social chaos that results from companies to the broader community. These policies have been consistently unpopular but elected representatives answer to the elites that provide them with the capital they need to mobilize voters or, more recently, to harvest ballots.
It depends where you live and the employment law in that country, In the UK 4 weeks vacation, Sick pay from day one, Time off in lieu for working national holidays are standards, we do not have to pay for 'health benefits' as they are provided free as needed by our National Heath Service (though we can pay for private health insurance if we wish), I know from working in the US that this is far from the norm there, but what we have now comes from having to fight for them over many decades.
The job is not for your benefit, the company owns the job and they can set the requirements. The company is there to make money, not to serve you. If you don't like it, don't apply for it, and they probably don't want you anyway. If you want vacation time then start your own company and take as much time off as you want.
Many blue collared jobs aren't being compensated nearly enough. Steel mill workers, electrical lineman, iron works etc.
well tough life. you gotta make money to have food on the table. employers can not just gift you money so you can have a 3-4 months long vacation. cause shit costs money and money doesn't grow on trees.
Entry Level Position
Requirement: 3-10 years of experience
But that's a self-resolving problem anyway.
I don't know of any but then I'm self-employed so generally I do 70 hour weeks, 1 day off per year
hell I didn't even stop working when I was in hospital for a few days
Many adults are not getting enough rest
I can get behind that quote
Very true
