This happens all the time and has done since image , optics and public / professional opinion mattered. Even if is is not given or stated as the eventual or ultimate reason for a person to have to vacate their position it has likely factored heavily in the judgment. This is really obvious in the roles where how a person is perceived by their audience but also in areas where you really wouldnāt expect it. I. e an ordinary person in a relatively ordinary job becomes more visible because of an either gossip or rumour in a negative way which leads to attention being paid to them putting them under a spotlight. This pressure often places the individual at a disadvantage , causing them stress to the extent that they screw up and theyāre fired or that they leave because of being put under the microscope.
So to answer the question , yes it should be a thing in respect to areas of professional conduct as thatās always been there but image and optics ALWAYS matter. From CEOs and CTOās down to the average joe ( and Joanne ) as I wouldnāt want anyone to think itās gender specific !!

I voted with: No, they shouldn't lose their careers or jobs.
They should be held accountable for their mistakes in that particualr area, especially when not directly related to their job or work.
Precautions are then enforced as needed. Otherwise, why give scandal or people imperfection more attention than contribution?
We are all imperfect and we do mistakes. Generally people find thrill or fun or excitement knowing such news.
We shouldn't allow it. Be it just a bad wide spread individual nature, or someone benefiting from smearing others.
If for example it comes from a teacher, then the effect is direct and has to affect their job.
But if a worker or an engineer for example, then they are warned within work ethics.
When a male engineer for example is playing around a lot with girls, then we know it may come to affect work as it starts becoming personal, and if not we as males know how women can turn a man's mind, attention, and behavior upside down.
That's why they are given a warning and precautions are enforced.. if not behaved, then yes they may lose their position.
