I'm about to be a freshman in college and I want to go on to medical school. Any tips or advice would be great. Also, what does the MCAT look like question wise?
For people in the medical field, how hard was medical school for you?
I noticed this has been unanswered for a while. I'm not medical, but I've known some people who have done it. I also helped a friend study for her MCAT.
Don't think too far ahead. Get through your undergrad first. Pick a good premed major. Ideally it should be something you want to do for a living if you don't get into med school. Keep your grades up, like straight A's if you can.
MCAT is just a standard type of test, similar to tests you've already taken. It covers a wide variety of subjects. So you can expect math, general science, etc. There are probably sample tests out there, maybe even with questions from the actual test pool. There are also tons of books for studying.
But get through your undergrad first. You need to show that you have what it takes. College is a step up from high school. It's far less forgiving. Don't even think about getting behind. Get the books for your classes ahead of time and read at least the first chapter or two before the class starts.
Pick your friends in college wisely. Hang with people who will help and motivate you. Join study groups, or start one yourself. Make sure they actually study - that doesn't mean it can't be social, but the goal is to study, help each other, and motivate each other.
Thanks for the advice I appreciate it, I don't really have anyone to ask since I'm the first in my family to go to college. I'm majoring in Biology but I might do a dual degree of Biology and Neuroscience
That sounds like a good plan. In any of those you need an advanced degree. You can also get a PhD in medicine, which is not the same as a medical doctor. There are a lot of medical fields, some of which are still emerging and growing fast..
