7 moI've had 2 successful careers. Bachelors degrees in Finance and Accounting.
15 years in the US Army as an officer. LOL, my degrees did not play a role in that job other than as a hurdle to becoming an officer.
15 years in Fortune 100 and Private Equity. Here my degrees did play a role. So I eventually made use of my degrees but it was a circuitous route that was never guaranteed.
And now, after semi retiring about 9 years ago, I have a 3rd career consulting for investment banks, hedge funds, private equity, and a few manufacturing clients. Mostly the buy side on doing diligence on deals. But also operational optimization after the deals. All of it project based. So I still use the finance training and experience and connections.
It definitely did not evolve according to some master plan I developed at 21 years old.

@Ez-Bri-Z_v2 Interesting question - smart woman ! I started out in Liberal Arts, and was working in the 'Transportation field' working in Trucking as a 'dispatcher' with a local company
Moving to California, I got a Masters degree MBA- at Pepperdine University. and then moved into Manufacturing - Fluor Engineering and Construction - as a Transportation Analyst - and later into Precision Manufacturing.
A varied career, so far

Thank you!
That does sound varied. I had a varied career myself. Started out in food service and waitressing. From there, I moved into call center work. Then I ended up in IT, which I enjoy immensely. - 7 mo

Oh, that's cool. My mom actually wanted to do something like that but stayed in nursing until she finally retired.

@Ez-Bri-Z_v2 & @Bricealan... It had always been my dream and ambition from a little girl to become a policewoman... However due to me having an unfortunate medical condition I wasn't accepted but was very much persuaded to look and seek out an alternative... Looking back it was sheer and utter disappointment, but I think I definitely chose the right course, and simply couldn't be happier.

Yes, I completed my MBA at Harvard University, focusing on business and management. My career journey led me to education and career development, which aligns closely with the skills and knowledge I acquired during my studies. My education provided a strong foundation for understanding organizational dynamics and effective communication, both essential in my current field.

I started college a year after I graduated high school on an ROTC scholarship I lost the scholarship after freshman year because I could not pass the eye test. I had enough money saved to pay fro one more semester then I had to drop out. A year later I went to a different school on some kind of work study type arrangement. Worked part of tjhe year and it took 5 years to graduate. I fell behind paying my tuition and after 3 years I had to drop out again.
I finally went back part time at night. I was able to transfer most of the credits from the first college but nothing from the second college because they were quarters and not semesters and could not be transferred. It took me another 4 years part time to finish with a BS in Accounting. The next semester I started a Masters program for computer science and when I finished that I got into IT/ Ihad a good career asa network administrator and now teach computer science at a local college
20 ReplyI finished my masters degree in software engineering but for three and and counting I’ve been working as a digital strategy and transformation consultant
I suppose I’m still in IT as well but I don’t really fit the profile of a geeky developer anymore
I ended up being way more of a suit and tie20 Reply
7 moI have a learning disability and I struggled to make it through high school. I had an interest in electronics and took two years of it in High School/Vocational School. I thought if I could an entry level job, I could maybe move into that field that way. But I got fired from my first job doing it... No I never went to College. I honestly don't think I could handle it.

7 moMy college education I had intended was permanently canceled by the Vietnam War. I had intended on getting a four year degree in economics. And then going to law school to become. an attorney in the business field. But my next stop was Vietnam. So I never ended up in the field that I wanted to be in.

7 moThe "College" I went to, at the age of 16, was the Army Apprentices College at Beachley near Chepstow in Wales where I was trained to be an engine fitter and thus began my 11½y stint in the Royal Engineers.
After demob I worked at a number of tasks, mainly railway associated.
