Do I need to give a reason for calling in "sick"?

I've got 25 sick days.

I want to use one of them as I have an interview for another job.

Do I just say "I'm not coming into as I'm not feeling well."

My boss is a sensitive & grumpy 35 year old woman. She gets annoyed at the stupidest things.

Legally speaking, you don’t have to give a reason. You’re using a sick day, that’s that. The company has no legal reason to ask as that’s an infringement on your privacy. The most they might ask for is a sick note from a doctor’s office, which can easily be faked.

It's very easy. Say your nephew came over for a birthday party and they have the stomach flu and this morning you had diarrhea 6 times. She will be begging you to stay home.

Given that you have a certain number of allowed sick days, I don't think you do technically. But it just depends on the company.
