How did you make your decision? Do you know better now? How do you feel about it now?
Ironically as new into a new team I was given a bad job. The person originally given the job was so displeased at the task she slapped in a leave form and went on holiday instead. So this career move was unplanned.
But I did it fairly well and had the thought "if my dept head wants to save costs then maybe other dept heads would want to and am fairly good at it".
So I pitched and I turned out to be right and my team turned into a cost reduction team. I have been doing that ever since, having a ball.
Changing my attitude was the career move. Similarly I stopped asking 'What can I do' and started asking 'What must I do' instead. That lead to vastly improved results. Recommend asking what must I do.14 Reply- 18 d
Wow, that is a great story with a powerful message. If you want to stand out as a valuable player you need to know how you fit into the picture, what can you do is important but it is much better to first ask what's missing and can I fit this gap better than what's in place now.
Another little lesson in there is how "The money is in doing what no one else wants to do" you picked up the slack somewhere that people so didn't want to deal with the problem, they would leave work to pass the buck 😂 - 18 d
Thankyou for clarifying, it's an entire mentality

I started my business. It was doing so well by the end of my freshman year in college that I dropped out. I do not regret it at all. Unless the economy tanks I should have enough passive income by 2035 to retire.

Going to a few colleges over the course of 5 years and finally getting into the career field that I’ve been dreaming of since I was a kid while all my school teachers told it was an unrealistic dream because I didn’t really do great in school.

I would say my most important decision in my career was to go back to college for an additional degree. I think it would have helped either way, but I was fortunate to get into the highest rated college for my area of study and that opened a tremendous number of doors. My income skyrocketed throughout my career after that.
It was not an easy decision as I had to take time out of my already existing career. And the tuition at this school is very expensive. And going back to school was not an easy thing, it's a completely different state of mind. But looking back it was a very successful move.

I liked what I was doing at the time, but I was getting married, so I figured I sould be home once in a while.
That was my first marriage, which didn't last, but then I was hooked and never looked back.
There are a few days I wonder about my life choice, but the vast majority of the time I could not picture myself doing anything else.

To invest 15% of my income since I was 25. I know it doesn't sound like it should have anything to do with my career. But, 1. I've always viewed profit motive as 50% of the driver behind career choices. But also 2. Because that nest egg and it's growth over the years has afforded me the opportunity to take chances without fear knowing I have it to fall back on. Now almost 25 years later I've amassed enough that I work less for the profit motive and more for the enjoyment.

While I was in my 30s I went back to college and got a degree in Computer science and went into IT. I had a good career and now I am teaching computer science to rhe next generation of network engineers.

It's either becoming a lawyer or my decision to start my own business. Both have had HUGE implications in my life.
