What was, as someone responsible for hiring, your easiest nope, or rejection?

This was about two weeks ago. I turned someone down for political reasons, though not because of her political affiliation (granted politics are not a protected class). It was because of a few different factors. the first, biggest one, She demanded a female interviewer. She refused to talk to me, as the owner of the company. That right there immediately got a no from me. the second was the fact that she was wearing a blue bracelet that had beads that spelled out 4-b movement, and the third was the fact that her hair was shaved bald. All of those factors combined screamed law suit waiting to happen. So she got a single interview, with our HR person, Her resume, and application was immediately trashed afterword.

Even though I wasn't HR, we would have hiring panels and as a manager, I was able to sit in on all the summer hires. Our job ad made it clear we needed people who could work with a diverse set of people, people who were animated, good interpersonal skills because we had a huge staff, and just those with upbeat bubbly personalities with preferably a performance background as they would be working with kids. I do not know for the life of me, why anyone would walk in and slump down in a chair and give two word answers to that, and expect us to go, this is the guy or this is the girl we're looking for, but they were almost immediate rejections unless we could detect that maybe they were super nervous, then we'd give them another shot after a quick break.

Conversely, we were hiring once for an assistant manager, and we found THE guy. Super upbeat, great resume, immediately liked by our other management team, but hiring was contingent on one last thing, had to absolutely pass the drug test. This guy failed it, but because we all liked him so much even after a day of being there, that we were like, surely a fluke, gave him another shot, failed that too. He had no real excuses, just quietly accepted his fate which let us know, this wasn't some clerical error or some medicine that caused him to test positive, but he was taking some drug he thought would probably go undetected but retakes must be done within like a 2 hour window of a fail, so whatever it was was clearly still in his system. That rejection was a tough break, but when you have sensitive information and you work around kids, you cannot afford to have some dude huffing it in the bathroom. So many things can go wrong there especially if you had prior knowledge.

It is pretty easy to tell who will make it through the door for thier first day, and because I work with everyone who will be a good fit moving up.
