Is "Can't Access ChatGPT "a Legitimate Excuse for Students to Not Turn in a Paper on-Time?

ChatGPT was unavailable for a few hours a few days ago, but OpenAI got it back up.

Some high school and college students are complaining that they could not complete their papers on-time because of ChatGPTs outage.

Is that a legitimate excuse in today's world? Better than "My dog ate my homework"?

Using ChatGPT or other AI tools is a form of plagiarism, since AI "creates" text from the text works of others. It's interesting that one can typically paraphrase another's work but not copy it directly (plagiarism). Is it ironic that paraphrase and plagiarize each have 10 letters?

Back in my day we didn’t have no fancy technology like CHATGPT, we had to read BOOKS, YES THATS RIGHT, terrifying I know. Even the internet was still in its baby stages back in the 1990’s. Good luck doing anything online for school back then, information was hit or miss at best.

People nowadays have it so easy, and here’s the kicker! I’m not even that OLD. It’s crazy what golden spoons these modern generations are handed to on the daily!!

A lot of employers are now using AI to scan job applications to spot which ones were written by AI and straight into the rejection pile they go. These kids have got a rude awakening in the real world.

It's becoming a big problem with a lot of schools and universities starting to fight back.

I remember in elementary school getting a failing grade on a paper. The teacher thought I copied it, even though I hadn't. It WAS somewhat paraphrased, but it was my own words, and my own understanding of the source material.

Absolutely not. I used to assign a term paper but I stopped doing it because the spelling and grammar was so bed I would get very upset. I did not fail anyone because it was a technical course and not an English course but it is frightening how the kids are being failed by the public schools.

There is AI software that detects AI texts, when you use AI to write your papers even with modifications you will be damned by any prof. Only a fool would admit to use AI but I found soon out on Uni that some students think they are still in elementary school.
