What do you think of a no-whites school trip?

A high school in Minnesota canceled a trip planned for only students of color after it was pointed out that it violated federal and state civil rights law as well as school policy.

What do you think about this and the school administrators who planned it?

If it's not okay to have a whites-only school trip, it's not okay to have a non-whites-only school trip. Figuring this out is NOT rocket science.

Racism is favoring someone or discriminating someone based on race. WHICH race is irrelevant. That's why we've made racial discrimination illegal.

The problem is that these woke people don't want that at all. They aren't interested in equality - they're actively against equality. They're looking for (black/brown) racial superiority, because they're against whitey. And they're furious that their grift is being shut down. As a brown person myself, I'm thrilled to see it shut down.

People are people. We all bleed red blood. We're all humans. There's no reason whatsoever to discriminate based on race, especially not for anything government-funded.

Ok, so the fact is there ARE minority recruitment events supported not only by private- and public-sector companies but by the government (EOAA) as well. It's not designed to be racist and it's rather upsetting that the willful misinterpretation of the trip prevented minority students from having access to possibly valuable opportunities that will help them transition from high school to the workforce. The fake claim that it's a violation of some kind is ridiculous and sets EOAA efforts back to the 1800s. Smh. Don't get me started.

In the 70s there was a program of forced busing. Students were bussed out of their neighborhoods to schools in other parts of the city to create schools that were more integrated. This caused many white people to move to the suburbs and the ones who could not move put their kids into private schools. The whole experiment was a dismal failure. There is one part of the city that is connected only by a tunnel. They did no bus any students there because there was a lot of talk that if they did some of the residents would blow up the tunnel.

@PrincessC16 My cousin was in that jackpot. He was bussed into a really sketchy part of town and the kids used to beat him out of his lunch money. His mother was a teacher in one of the suburban towns so she snuck him in there. This kid was able to get a PhD in Chemistry from Stanford. Who knows what would have happened to him if he had to be part of that failed experiment?

I think pro-inner demographic events make rational sense because a lot of people feel like they are ignored or under regarded in mixed race settings but having a blanket refusal to reject diverse groups sets the same type of racist message that having selective racial disrespect within mixed racial groups would have. There is no simple way to resolve the issue of racism, every strategy the government uses is going to have both benefits and failures in their performance outcomes and results, for the racial groups in the area. I would not recommend a black only event that bans white people but I can acknowledge the pain and anti black hatred that motivated them to think the event was a logical conclusion to their feelings of persecution.

I'm honestly not surprised they tried to pull something like this. I saw a news report last year about a non profit that takes poor teenagers of color for free camping.

I was like, "Where are the programs to help poor WHITE kids?" And this is our alleged privilege.

It sucks, just as an all-white school trip would suck. Look, at 71, I remember "White" and "Coloured" facilities of all kinds. We needn't officially sanction segregation, though it's far too often practiced in many American spheres.

I'm colored peach so I'm included... and sometimes, I'm kinda tan after sun, so that's colored too. I don't see the issue. All colors are colors, they cannot define "color" to exclude a particular color.

As well, if they were trying to do that, it's bogus.

That said, if they want to limit it to some subset of humans, I'm ok with that and quite frankly, I probably don't want to be on that bus anyways if they don't want me.
