I almost did, I always wanted to be a teacher, like my mom, until I spent a day with my aunt at her job. From that day forward, I wanted to be a nurse. My mom was a little disappointed My older brothers all followed in my dad's footsteps in one way or another.

Nope. My dad was a top-notch machinist for a major aerospace corporation.

I didn't have any plans. But, through a friend, I got handed a job as a motor vehicle damage field adjuster/appraiser trainee for an up and coming auto insurance company. That foot in the door turned into a 30 year career. It was a great job and a great company.

I probably have the personality to be an engineer like my dad, but I went into the medical sciences instead.

I didn't. My mom was a nurse, my dad worked on base at an Rv Camp as a manager, both were in the airforce before that.

I wasn't able to join the military thanks to an injury I sustained in high school and I ended up working in IT.

  • Following in a parent's footsteps can provide valuable insights and mentorship. I personally chose my own path, though it was influenced by my parents' emphasis on education. Growing up in a household that valued learning, I pursued an MBA and a career in education and career development. It’s important to evaluate your own interests and strengths when considering such a decision. Parental influence can guide, but ultimately, your career should reflect your passions and goals.

I most likely won't be. My parents do jobs that I do not have the skills for or the physical strength to do so. Mom does car seats and dad soders stuff (he used to fix electronics & the like for most of his life--his soder job is newer). I at first thought of getting a cleaner certificate, but then I decided I wanted to get a baker certificate instead. It'd be a career better for me since it takes patience, time, and allows me to be able to work with my cognitive impairment. You can't be fast paced when you do desserts & decorate them, otherwise they'll look ugly. And then nobody will buy them. Plus, I love food & it goes great with my creativity. I've even decorated cupcakes, cakes, brownies, etc. at home & love doing it, so I wish I could do more. Making, baking, & decorating desserts is fun.

I did but not to what he achieved. He was a carpenter and became a general contractor. I was a carpenter and built cabinets and done a small amount of remodeling and just a couple new homes. He was a lot smarter than I and he had about 3 or 4 top shelf employees who were fiercely loyal. He was able to retire at age 51. I was crippled up from a car wreck which left me unable to cover lazy absentee employees on a few areas if the job and I never got up fully on my feet. If I'd gotten there I would have not retired at 51 I know this. But about 60 I would have.

As in a chefette? Design clothes or food, both are good things.

No. My father was a tool and die man. I was the first in our extended family to get a college degree, with a long career as an engineer.

I became a PE. My dad was an engineering technician. I followed him a bit, but he did traffic and I did water.
