Learned how to utilize a tractor, skid steer and forklift

Obviously the physical aspect of it getting stronger from the physicals labor

Ingenuity and creativity because you gotta know how to think outside the box and approach problems differently because when something breaks or goes wrong it could be a any number of things that caused it. Also how to jerry rig a lot of stuff like that.

Decent knowledge and understanding of tools and how to use them and what to use them on. Hammers, wrenches, screwdrivers, impacts, drills, grinders, etc used most different kinds of tools at one point or another except torches or welders.

Knowing how to load and unload semi's with both hopper and box trailers

Being able to finely clean a space of all dust, dirt and other things like grain places like rooms or bins.

Operation of the various machines we have like augers, mills, gravity tables, how to break them down as well and or clean them.

Experience with light repair and maintenance work on various machines n objects.

Being able to stop and identify certain types of grain from the head or seeds even when in the middle of a field.

Being able to handle hard physical labor and work in dusty and dirty enviroments and in extreme weather conditions such violent rain storms, tornado's, blizzards, etc, extreme heat like 112 degree's or extreme cold like -10 with a -30 wind chill. Both of which I've had to work in.

    How to build/repair pallets.

    Mechanical knowledge.

    Grain knowledge.

How to handle various chemicals, poisons and how to properly dispose of the containers.

There's quite a bit of knowledge to be learned and it's been beneficial to me in general.

I don’t think it’s my profession per say , it’s not like everyone in my profession has my advantages

Many folk might not even consider these advantageous but for what they enable for me I beleive they are.

I am trusted , my access with security & information is god-like so I’m already elevated to a position of authority and trust.

I am respected. Because of my far reaching responsibilities key involvement that happens in at least 90% of what does on within the companies I look after I have specific and unique onsite.

My work is varied but all within the confines of information , technology and security. Given thy those are constantly changing and developing my profession is far from dull. Keeping up is the challenge !

There are religious advantages to being self employed, one is you do not have to lie or cheat people to keep your job. That is why I could not go to law school at U of T. I could not apply, since I might have to lie to keep my job.

  • Understanding the advantages of a profession can guide your career path effectively. Typically, these might include personal growth through continuous learning, the opportunity to make a meaningful impact, financial stability, and a sense of achievement. Moreover, a chosen profession might offer networking opportunities and chances for advancement. In my experience, finding joy and passion in what you do daily can transform work from a mere task to a fulfilling journey. Tailoring your career choices based on personal values and strengths can amplify these advantages, leading to long-term satisfaction.

I'm on my 4th career and the one consistent thing has been autonomy. Never a 9 to 5 thing. I could always come and go as I pleased. Pretty much self directed. No boring routine. Always project based. And I've always been involved in interesting / challenging / unique stuff.

As a systems engineer in both power systems and railways, where I've spent my entire career, I'm able to build new things that help people. Rail transit systems that I've helped build over the years, for example, safely and efficiently transport more than 40 million people to/from work/school/shopping each day in various cities around the world.

Engineering is both challenging and rewarding.

AI/EMR has made my job far easier. I honestly don't think I'd do it without EMR (at the least). The key advantage I see is that AI cannot and never will replace us. We are also always in demand. So, while we may not find a job, there are always openings somewhere.

Sometimes we get to save lives, people drop off treats at the station, little kids are in awe when they come to the station to look at the equipment, you get to break stuff (only when necessary) Sometimes it helps to get dates, you get to look cool with your sun glasses on driving the truck, you get to park in the fire lane, great food...
