I didn't - I was driving things since I was a kid - and I passed my written test 100% to get my permit at 15 1/2; a learner's permit allows you to drive only when you have a licensed driver in the car with you. I got my license 2 days after my 16th birthday because my birthday fell on a Saturday, and the next Monday was the first available day.

Since then, I've driven almost every kind of land vehicle, and several types of boats/watercraft. I drive over 30,000 miles a year, which means in my lifetime, I've driven around a million miles.

I don't really think any part of it was hard, just annoying. Waiting in line to fill out the forms, then waiting in line to take the "test" that was mostly on drugs not even driving at least in my state lol. The driving "test" was probably the hardest part. Not because it's hard, you literately just drive around the block, but because it's nerve racking. it takes you like 2 months to schedule one and now you have some random person judging you.

If you are nervous about taking the test, the proctor isn't even paying attention. He/she is just waiting to see if he hears he blinker or if you bump the corner. Some test guys are chill and will pass you no problem, other ones are power happy weirdos who will fail you first time for no reason. I was lucky and passed my first time because my guy was chill. In retrospect I shouldn't have passed, but it's not really about seeing if you are a good driver or not.

I failed my first time but it's 'cuz I got so nervous. I grew up learning to drive tractors and old haying trucks so the actual driving part was not a problem. It was WHERE I had to drive. My little town has 1 tar road. I am not joking. The rest is dirt. I just had very little experience driving in a town with much traffic and road signs and all of that. So when I had to take my test down in "Big Town" where I hardly ever got to anyway, I was all worked up, excited and all of that so I made a couple little dumb mistakes like stopping at a yield sign. At least I didn't wait for it to change color.

The whole speed limit thing and traffic lights were a real intrusion into my driving style. And I didn’t see the need to be able to do a 3 point turn when I could simply initiate a spin with the steering wheel and gas pedal to reverse direction faster in less space. The driving test guy was no fun at all.

  • Obtaining a driver's license can present a variety of challenges. Personally, I found the parallel parking maneuver to be particularly tricky, as it requires precise control and spatial awareness. Additionally, adjusting to the rules of the road and navigating busy traffic areas provided initial challenges. However, with practice and patience, these obstacles become manageable. The key is consistent practice and utilizing available resources, such as driving courses and feedback from experienced drivers, to build confidence and competence behind the wheel.

The paper test was harder. The practical test was simple, easy, all of it was based on what I could see and hear. I had to take the paper test twice because the scoring methods are so strict that a few wrong answers are enough to fail.

Actually, I technically never passed my drivers test. It was the parallel park that got me.

It's a pretty dumb test anyway.

I know I am intelligent enough to get a driver's license because I can do basic math and spatial navigation but I consider myself a high risk driver so I choose to remove myself from the road, for my safety and the safety of other drivers.

I am probably 90% more likely to get into a problem on the road than the average driver, due to poor hand eye coordination and delayed visual processing.

I really did not have much trouble. I remember studying for the test and the road test was not a problem because my father knew a registry cop he was in the Amvets with and my brother and I took our road test with him. After we both passed my father gave him a bottle.

The parking spots are always too small, the lines suck, somehow one of your two proofs of address they don't accept, and you always have to take off work to go during their normal business hours. Also, you can tell not a single person wants to be there including the people working. You feel hated by them for showing up

Just dealing with the DMV. I took driver's ed so I didn't have to take a road test, passed my written drivers test, but when it finally came down to actually getting it, they wanted some paperwork I didn't have after my dad and I had waited in line forever, do denied me. I literally burst into tears because I wanted my license so bad. Thankfully my neighbor knew some people who knew some people and the next thing I knew, I was driving to school on my own and it was flippin' awesome!

@TurkishGuyy No part was difficult. I work for the DMV and know what to expect with changes in the written, and of course the vision test is easy if you do you vision exam annually.

None of it to be honest it was pretty easy both the written test and the practical.

Though there's a bit more to it these days then when I was younger.
