I think a company that doesn’t offer paid holidays is a shitty place to work. Agree or disagree?

I have no problem with working on a holiday, but pay time and a half. Telling me that I have the day off without pay is horrible. Like who would actually want that?

Who has the pay for this “paid holiday?” The company. And therefore the customers. And suddenly they're less competitive that the other companies in their same industry, and start losing money, and have to lay people off, so now they don't have a job.

Jobs are owned by the employer, not the employee.

The place I worked had PTO by hours. They were thinking of making it so you couldn't work on holidays. I lobbied against it. I probably won't work on Christmas or Thanksgiving, maybe a few other holidays, but I will work on 4th of July and Halloween. I don't like not having a choice to work on days like that. Also, my coworkers may not celebrate Christmas. They should be allowed to work then, because it's not a holiday they observe. Luckily my comments to keep holidays as open was accepted. Instead of getting a change in PTO and being forced to take holidays off. We kept the same PTO scale and the choice to work on holidays. Two Christmases ago, I worked a half day, because my girlfriend had to go into work in the afternoon. I could do 4 hours of work while she was away (I work from home). That was good, because I only used 4 instead of 8 PTO hours.

Unless you own a business you wouldn't have an understanding of the costs of doing business and think every business operating is able to afford these type of benefits.
