I have this coworker that nitpicks at everything I do. If I leave a staple in a paper that's supposed to go in the scanner while all the other 99 Staples are out she finds the one that's incorrect. It's really demoralizing. She said things like I don't have a college degree even though the job doesn't require a college degree and shouldn't be working here and offered someone else to work at my job to my boss. She's very much a perfectionist borderline maybe autistic. I try to be sympathetic but it's really hard to be around her sometimes. She wants me to destaple her papers but I don't want to because if I miss one she'll complain about it for 30 minutes or more. She's embarrassed me multiple times at work when I was brand new and I didn't know some co-workers names she brought me over to their name plates and said there they were. The whole shop new and it was so embarrassing. I have a really hard time with this person. She's always trying to get me to do other projects that are at my job instead of teaching my the job that I'm hired to do. All of the managers know not to listen to her but she keeps pushing me to do other things. If we're slow at all she keeps wanting me to do little projects for her or go do shop things even though I'm the front desk. I don't know how to deal with her. My manager is out for a little while so I'm basically not protected from her. Any thoughts on how to deal with a coworker who's very nitpicky, controlling doesn't really want to be my coworker kind of person?

I've encountered similar challenges. It's essential to maintain professionalism while setting boundaries. Communicate with her openly about your role and responsibilities, and be clear about your colleague's duties. Practice assertiveness by politely declining tasks outside your job scope, emphasizing your priorities. Document interactions if they escalate. Seek support from HR or a manager you trust, explaining your concerns calmly. Focus on your growth and contributions. Personally, I've seen these strategies empower individuals to handle workplace dynamics more confidently, leading to a respectful working environment. Remember, staying composed and respectful serves you well in the long run.
