Can ambition make you lose sight of what really matters in life?

I've always been ambitious.
But in my older years, and with retirement on the horizon I must reflect and ask if I had my priorities right.

I didn't have much compassion. I was just focused on job and when that didn't succeed (because I didn't have the compassion towards my colleagues) I'm asking myself could I have done things differently.
