That's it? No context? I'll try to answer anyways.

I HATE when that happens, but just tell them you already have your trip booked and you can't get refunded for it, and that you can start as soon as you get back

Of course. Just let them know as soon as they offer you the job that you've already paid for a trip that is non refundable.

  • Yes, you usually can—if you handle it properly.

When you get the offer (or at latest before you sign), say clearly:

“I’m very excited about the role. I do have a pre‑booked, non‑refundable holiday from [dates], arranged before this opportunity came up. Would it be possible to honour that time off?”

    Most employers accept this, either:
    - Adjusting your start date, or
    - Letting you take unpaid/advanced leave.

Get the agreement in writing (email is fine).
If they refuse entirely, consider what that signals about their culture before accepting.

Usually it will be OK. You just have to check with them before accepting the job.

Have you talked to them about plans that you already made in the future to see if they are able to work around them?

Yes but, ask them if it's okay to take that time off, first because it's already booked.

Yes, um you have to tell them first so it becomes a condition of your acceptance
