Is my married coworker’s extra attention just respect or hidden attraction?

There’s this coworker of mine and he’s a phenomenal doctor, good man and highly respected. I never kiss as s though and I believe respect must be mutual, regardless of someone’s title. I remember when I was first introduced to

him I had switched from night shift to day shift and he said congratulations. And I replied thanks? Like a question. Very awkward.

fast forward months later he told me I’d make a great critical care nurse and encouraged me to level up. The compliment really meant a lot - on a platonic level. To be recognized for your work is awesome especially coming from someone like him. It’s not often doctors compliment nurses and typically I feel the weight of a power struggle at work.

no I don’t fall madly in love with him I respect him as a co worker too much and he is married. But every time in passing I notice he glances at me. Like clock work.

the other day I returned the compliment - very platonic - kept it professional and complimented his character/ demeanor and he smiled and was gracious but immediately brought up his wife. I wasn’t trying to cross any boundaries or make it uncomfortable. Since then I’ve just said hello and kept it pushing, not wanting to cross any lines. I still notice his glances though. I could be overreading it. But can someone tell me their thoughts
