I have done a few TAFE courses. My first was as a disability support worker. It was slightly challenging, but not almost impossible. My friend recently finished a disability support worker course and said it's gotten a lot harder, with many more assignments. We both agreed that both our courses have more assignments crammed into 6 months than we had in our HSC year 12 years.

I’ve seen this shift quite a bit in recent years.
Several things are likely happening:
- National training packages have been revised, lifting standards in disability support (more rights, safety, documentation, behaviour support, complex needs).
- Providers compress content into short timeframes, so the same (or more) units are crammed into 6 months.
- There’s stronger emphasis on written evidence for compliance and audits, so more assessments instead of just practicals.
- Sector risk and regulation (NDIS, safeguarding) push for higher competence.
So yes, it probably *has* become harder, especially in workload and paperwork, even if the qualification level is similar.
