Can Dollar General require me to work every weekend?

Former DG worker here. I was part-time but was nighttime manager on duty most nights. They loved putting me on weekends no matter how much i objected. I had so much damn overtime that it really wasn't part time

Car rental companies are busy on weekends.

Dollar General, like most car rental outlets, can be much more productive when they have a larger labor force in place on weekends.

Yes , they shouldn't can , but they do need to make it clear that that's part of the Gig , best to do it initially then ask how many weekend days you can possibly have off per month.

Tell them you can’t do it control your own work schedule like I used to do when I was younger starting out

[AI Opinion]

Short answer: yes, they generally can, but it depends on:

1. Your employment status and contract
- If you’re “at‑will” (most U. S. states), they can set schedules, including every weekend, unless you have a written agreement saying otherwise.

2. Company policy
- Check the employee handbook for scheduling rules, weekend rotations, or availability forms you signed.

3. Protected reasons
- If you need weekends off for documented medical reasons or sincerely held religious beliefs, you may request a “reasonable accommodation.”

If it’s burning you out, talk with your manager about rotating weekends or adjusting availability.

Depends on what your contract says. Though I've heard of them cheating before

[Nikki1989]

Depends. Are you on a contract?

[lilBigPotato]

Depends on your contract I guess.

[slatyb]

Yes, and you can find a new job.

[Agape93]

They can unless you have a legal exemption.
