Yeah, yeah I know ring your shame bells

So I have watched a few Kdramas in my day and if you know you know. But for those who don't, a quick rundown:

Common Kdrama Trends

-the jerk male lead gets the girl

-the female lead is extra: extra awkard, extra annoying, extra clueless...take your pick

-the obvious, sensible ending is just not a thing. instead writers go waaay outside the circle (usually)

-the dramatic camera still on a character's face signaling the super addictive cliffhanger you've just been left with

So I took a break from Kdramas because I started seeing the same things it seemed like whether I looked at medical, historical, modern (though I can point you in the direction of some very good ones in those categories) and also I just wanted to catch up on my American series. Anywho I end up on Netflix and discover they have some Korean movies AND tv shows. I end up watching Hello My Twenties(aka Age of Youth, aka Generation of Youth), centered on the 20- something female roommates of the sharehouse Belle Epoque. The characters are all quite different which was very refreshing. I loved the theme song, the various sub plots, (though it did get a little slow for me towards the middle of season, but the writers had my back and really delivered for the rest of the season. I mean the final episodes were just great. ) This show is really just a gem that more people should know and appreciate.

I really wanted to touch on season 2 solely because of how impressed I was by the second season. It really dove even deeper into the characters especially the ones that didn't get to portray too much of their story in season 1, but also it dove a little for even some minor but important characters. There was an actress change which was a little hard to get adjusted to if you fell in love with the OG Belle Epoque crew, but later on you get adjusted. Oh and another character is only shown a few times but trust me it's cool because it's explained in season 1 (plus she is a key player in the season 2 premiere and she's brought back at important times and ACTUALLY says things and is there instead of like a voicemail cameo).

Back to season 2, the original major thread/plot of season 1 is continued to season 2 as we discover the origination/reason for the inciting incident of season 1 that sets everything off. We also get some guys in this season and they are NOT cookie cutter Kdrama guys.

Another thing I like about this show in general is that it touches on relevant topics, relatable situations/backgrounds/hardships and they are portrayed very well while maintaining the entertainment goal.

Also the acting is so good. All props to the actresses. THEY DID THAT. (especially one in particular if you really think about the drastic change in character she has to portray)
