Why do people only talk about anime and manga when they talk about Japanese culture?

I love Japanese culture but I mean their actual culture. They came up with a pretty unique way of life due to being so isolated from Europe. I love the geisha, kabuki, noh, I love their puppet shows and the music of instruments like the shamisen and koto. They’re very healthy and work minded and they bow and sit on the floor. I’m so jealous of the food.

Anime, manga, and J-pop are the least cool things about the archipelago. But when people talk about Japan it’s usually that. They should watch a kabuki or noh rendition of Yoshitsune Sanbon Zakura.

I usually think of the food first, because it's overall my favorite foreign food on the planet and also one of the only things I like about Japanese culture.

Anime's saving grace is that the writers are generally much more focused on story quality than American animators are, who have gotten increasingly stale and agenda-driven.

While I really like anime and manga, it isn't all I think of when I think of Japan, in fact, there are plenty of things I like about their culture itself, like their architecture and fashion, I have also always been sort of curious to try Japanese food...

Because that's one of the best known things about Japan, you can find them anywhere.
I dislike their views on work, they overwork themselves and they even came with their own word for death from excess work.

How are we stuck up? Xenophobia isn't really a thing in Japan. Like it's not even hate and prejudice, when you're an extremely homogeneous country, you tend to me wary and curious and often times ignorant which is normal to come off as rude. It's literally not xenophobia is in South Africa or in the US or even in Italy.

1) The United States really isn't one of the youngest countries in existence just so you know.
2) The article even gives you a warning that it's old, statistics are more accurate when it's closer to time, and I'm not denying the fact that there has been cases of prejudice in Japan but as off now it's dramatically subsided, even after that article was written the Government took it in hand. They didn't put out that survey for no reason :)
