I liked Doraemon a lot as a boy. It is still popular here in Japan. It's about a robotic cat from the future that loves dorayaki (Japanese kind of pancake snack) with all sorts of futuristic gadgets that can do things like allowing him to time travel and fly.

Aka-Chan to Boku (Baby & Me) is wholesome because the main characters are kids. Although I wouldn’t say it’s all light hearted - I cried so much because of the story line. This is easily one of my favorite animes and I’ve watched a lot.

Also just to name a few more Gakuen Babysitters, Little Witch Academia, Zatch Bell, and By the Grace of the Gods are other wholesome anime that I’ve seen.

Macross Saga is pretty wholesome. Kinda like a PG rated soap opera.
