*It doesn’t have to be in the romance genre, it could be an side plot line.

Omg I loooove that scene. That is quite the image you chose. It was masterfully choreographed, no? (Scary, graphic, but wow gorgeous.)
I went through allllll my notifications, leaving this one to the end. I knew I would really have to think here. So many images, storylines, running through my head...
I never read Pride and Prejudice, but I hear it's one of those.
And what is that famous Russian novel, with all the snow and longing?
They are the first two that came to mind.
Longing makes me absolutely crazy, bonkers. It is the biggest pay-off, when you two are finally together, but man is that tough. I really can't deal with anymore of it in life, I'm maxed out.
I'm not sure how I feel about stories about it. I think I cringe, bracing myself, because I don't know how it's going to turn out, and that makes me very... worried about my emotional and time investment.
I can enjoy ambivalent endings, sometimes. (My husband knows he's more good with that than I am. Sometimes I do scream at the TV.) I like realism, so not all stories have to be neatly tied up. I love bows. And closure. But I also see the world in greys/grays, so I could be said to have some cognitive dissonance about this, lol.
Ok, let's see...
Bridges of Madison County is a remarkably romantic, almost slow burn movie. (I read the book but it's not as good, in my opinion. Meryl Streep only agreed to sign on to do the film with Clint Eastwood directing if they re-wrote the screenplay from the woman's POV instead of the man's. And boy was she right. She has very good judgement. She humanized the story, made it less annoying.) I cry every. single. time at the end. It's too much. But the main character is so at peace with everything, so it makes it bearable I guess.
I sort of like the film Something Borrowed because of the main male protagonist's angst over whether he should choose his fiancee or his other love. It's not a super great movie overall (I really never like Ginnifer Goodwin; she seems very inauthentic to me, and not nice irl), but I liked his character very much. (It works out well in the end. Ahhh.) Plus, he's such a cutie, and nice guy.
Maybe When Harry Met Sally. A lot of the movies I'm thinking of have romantic incompatibility conflict, and a push-pull dynamic where the people aren't on the same page at the same time. That's rom com 101 I guess. WHMS is like the pinnacle of a fantastic pay-off in the end. Gotta love that New Year's set-up.
Shit, I'll just list my favourite romantic movies. There won't be any surprises here. Crazy, Stupid, Love., This is 40, You've Got Mail, Love Actually, Midnight in Paris, Philadelphia Story (the 1940 version, not the others), Age of Adaline (so, so good),
Then maybe sort of Eternal Sunshine, A Little Chaos, Friends With Money, As Good as it Gets, Manhattan, Forrest Gump, Jerry Maguire, Spanglish, Stranger Than Fiction, Goodwill Hunting, Lost in Translation, Private Lives of Pippa Lee, Upside of Anger. Whew.
I'd recommend all of these. But for a slow burn, try Age of Adaline and A Little Chaos. They are both period pieces, slow paced, serious, but very beautiful, elegant.
And for a fun but satisfying contemporary one, try How Do You Know. Do you know that one? I think it's really, really good. I enjoy every scene. It's very underappreciated/overlooked. Great cast, great script, great directing. Written and directed by James L. Brooks. I love his work. He knows relationships and dialogue as well as Nora Ephron.
Yes, great scene.
I watched Bridges of Madison County on your recommendation and I cried my eyes out.
Love Actually has one of my favorites, the Colin Firth story. Ughhhh I love that one so much. And you know I’m a huge fan of Eternal Sunshine. Some of those others, I have not seen so I have a good list going. I trust your movie judgment.
I thought of another. Tristan and Isolde. Amazing story. A painful amount of longing...
The Wedding Planner💒
I actually haven’t seen this one!!
It's really hilarious 🤣 but it can put you on a emotional rollercoaster ✌️
I’ll give it a watch. My friend shared her Amazon prime with me and has allll these movies that I’ve never seen. I’ll check and see if that one is there.
Here's the popcorn 🍿 enjoy 💞
Miami Vice (2006) was one that I thought had something of a slow-burn between Crockett and Isabella although they did move kind of quickly. Yet they were also in a rather hopeless scenario on opposing sides (Crockett undercover) and seemed to be trying to stay detached from each other, even though they couldn't.

Man, it has been a long time since I’ve seen Cheers!

Though none go with me...
Basically about a woman whose unsure of love since her mother died when she was young. Her father tells her its better to love and to have lost than to not love at all. That even tho her mother died of cancer if he didn't love her then she wouldn't have been born. He became a doctor in his wifes honor.
A young man comes to town all the other women give him attention but he's after her. They end up dating and he gets enlisted to go to the army.. he joined before her knew her.. all this time her next door neighbor Will its obvious he has feelings for her.. her father ends up dying suddenly of a heart attack and she finds out that since there's not a person her dad didn't treat that he's in debt. She figures she will sell the house but also finds out that the bank owns the house. She moves in with Will and lets Ben know they are writing letters during his time away at war. She hears he dies but was really taken as a prisoner.. when he comes back she married Will abit after she heard he was dead.. Will gets alzheimer ends up passing away he tells her its the end of his life but not hers.. to know when she laughs he laughs to go on and she gets with Ben.

Donna and Josh on the show West Wing
You know, I never got around to watching this one!
What they all have in common - that i've seen - is that the guy seems gay or closet gay. Back in the day, the Nanny show was a good example.
