Thats if you’ve even ever done it lol. #1 Collect Physical CDs/DVDs I mean sure, we have Spotify, Youtube and several streaming platforms but none of that compares for me. I want the case. I want the disc. I want to pop it into a dvd player or a game console and watch on tv. I take my collection seriously.  Its just another work of art for me like my skateboards and Canvas art. Shoot I even still have VHS but them hoes dusty lol. And i never sell my games or consoles . I’ll get rid of certain things in life but none of the above #2 Watch Cable TV My grandpa would prefer a physical newspaper over reading a news article online on a device. I agree with him. I also prefer cable tv over dozens of streaming platforms. Sure its like $140-180 a month but I’d say its worth it. I like having the DVR as well where i can record and rewind as much as i want (even though I’m now at 1% lol). But i delete as I buy the physical CD/DVD of certain movies and shows. I mean I watch a lot of shows from 7p-10p daily unless I’m at the casino.  So I have to have Starz, FX, ABC, NBC, CBS, Paramount/Spike, MTV, Disney, CW, Bravo, HGTV, E!, Sundance, Syfy/Sci-Fi, BBC, TNT, TBS, Comedy Central, Lifetime, WeTV, Boomerang, Nickelodean, Cartoon Network, Teen Nick, Ion, Freeform, CMT, BET, VH1, and IFC.  As for HBO, Cinemax and Showtime, my shows like Lovecraft Country, Watchmen (which is not coming back), The Chi, and Ray Donavan are off so not much use for those since Starz is still dropping some of the latest movies a few months after they hit theaters #FeelFreeToList #OldSchool

I remember when I first moved out on my own when I was 19 and I started to form my own collections of things. At that time I only had a smaller collection of VHS Movies, Tons of Cassettes and some CDs. I had one of those older stereos, a Walkman, and CD Player. Befor DVRS and Streaming Services, if you wanted to watch certain shows or movies, you either had to watch reruns, watch them when they aired, try to record them on VHS, rent them or go to a theater or Drive-In.

I began to start forming my own collections. I loved movies so would buy up as many DVDs as I could and eventually TV series too. It used to cost anywhere from $5 to $30 or so for a DVD and TV seasons were quite a bit more expensive at times. I'd did my best to buy them on sale, but many times if I wanted a movie when it first came out I'd spend more and purchase it. If you wanted to be able to watch the Special Features or get Special Editions, those cost more too. I often wanted all those added features and started buying box sets and stuff.
I now own over 300 DVDs and probably a 100 TV series or so.

Recording things through a DVR is so much more convenient than having to set up your own tapings.
I get kind of annoyed when I hear people complain about the price of different streaming services because you have access to countless movies and full TV Seasons an Series

It's funny to say this because being slightly over my mid 30's is still relatively young. Paying like $8 to $12 or so for a streaming service is peanuts considering the alternative ways. I still enjoy having cable to be able to enjoy the shows I like that usually air on certain channels. There's so many changes over the years both in how we watch TV, series and movies. Listening to music and reading books is always changing too. Nowadays I use a combination of them all Cable, Streaming Services, E-Books, Audio Books, Books, as well as most of the alternative ways like DVDS & CDS.

I had a huge collection of CDs and DVDs, but when I relocated from SoCal to Florida, I decided to leave most of them behind. Very few people were interested in them.

Yes, I still watch cable, but not often. Basic cable is included in my monthly association fees.

I was around when those technologies/formats came out.

Small transistor radios came out shortly after I was born and they became a big thing with kids. Even when I was in my mid-20s, my friends and I would take them to the beach and other places to listen to music.

When I was very young, an uncle gave me a bunch of 45rpm records he was getting rid of and I had a record player that only played 45's. Those had only come out 5 years before I was born. 33rpm LP's came out a year before that.

My grandfather was really into music. He had lots of 33's and 45's and one of those big console hi fi "stereo" record players that were pieces of furniture. He turned me onto lots of different kinds of music, including stuff that was brand new.

I think the first LPs that I ever had of my own were Beatles, starting in 1964 when I was 10. Before that, I remember that a friend and I would go to a nearby Woolworth's store and buy 45's from a clearance table because they were inexpensive.

When I got my first car in 1970, I put a 4 track player in it. Soon afterward, I changed to an 8 track and then a cassette.

By my late teens I had a really nice home stereo and turntable. My friends and I played records constantly. One friend even bought a "quadrophonic" system.
In my early twenties, I added a cassette player to my system.

It wasn't until after 1980, when I started working for a company that supplied me with a company car, that I had CD players in my cars.

In the early 80s, I got a Beta Max player for my apartment and soon switched to a VHS. I bought quite a few VHS tapes over the years. Those were cool because you could also record stuff off of the TV. DVD players came out in the late 90s and for a while I bought movies on both DVD and VHS, but I eventually switched entirely to VHS.

I still have a massive collection of LPs from the 60s and 70s. I even inherited my grandfather's collection. I have quite a few old 45s, too. I also have lots of CDs.
I have held onto quite a few VHS and DVDs but I rarely watch them anymore.

There's a problem with some technologies. Car cassette players, VHS, CD and DVD players have a lot of moving parts and I've had them eat tapes and discs over the years.
I also have to say that digitized music is lower quality than vinyl records.

I have a program that I use to do on-screen video recording on my computer (I'm also old fashioned enough that I have programs, rather than "apps", but that's a whole other issue). It keeps nagging me to update it, but if I did, I'd lose access to it, because the updated version requires a Windows update that's nothing short of spyware, and I refuse to download it. If I lose the installer of the version I'm using, I lose that program.

Netflix censored Back to the Future, Part 2: there's a scene where Marty recovers what he thinks is the sports almanac, but turns out to be Biff's girlie magazine. The scene briefly shows the cover (which features a woman in a nightgown; about as racy as a Sears catalogue); it got censored. Anyone who doesn't buy physical media (or at least acquire electronic backups that AREN'T contingent on a third-party platform to work) is a fool.

Also: I grew up listening to my parents' Beatles records alongside their Beatles tapes
and CDs; I'm here to tell you that anyone who claims records are just as good, audio quality-wise, is full of it.

I moved on from CD/DVD to BD-R and FDD long ago. I love quality which takes space, even with my favorite codec H265 NVENC. In Supergirl's case that means 1.3-1.6 GB per episode, so a DVD is out of the question. 126 episodes in total, if I put them on DVDs, I'll need at least 42 DVDs, LOL, so that's not an option. The only viable option is BD-R of 25GB or 50GB, or even better - a flash drive (FDD). Since lately the price of plastic went sky high and BD-R discs became a luxury, I started putting TV shows on flash drives. A 128 GB FDD costs about $30 in my country which is more than twice cheaper than a bundle of 10 BD-R discs.
I don't buy certain things, like "Supergirl", because they're not available to purchase in my country and my only option is download them from torrents. Besides, seeing what a garbage is available for purchase (the video bitrate is HD but the audio bitrate is a low quality 128 kbps AAC vomit), I'm better off with torrents! If they begin offering FullHD video bitrate and high quality audio with AT LEAST 640 kbps AC3, I might reconsider and actually buy TV shows.
I also stopped buying games on discs either, I prefer to have them digitally downloaded from Steam.

I used to have cable. Didn't have it as a kid, so when my brother got it, it was great. Then he moved, it disappeared. I wanted my cable back so i started paying $100 a month for it. Just to see toonami and record it. Then these fkers were taking too much money and I quit my job and couldn't afford it. Then came the sweet hint that my vizio tv could get me shows whenever as long there was internet... it's good good right now. <3

I still read physical newspapers and I still watch cable TV because most series I watch are concerning outdoor stuff or are found on my local versions of animal planet or other stations. Some of them I watch through prime. But I don´t have a need for netflix for instance because there many series I´ve never watched like House of Cards, Breaking Bad and other stuff because it didn´t get me hooked.

I still collect DVD's because my main laptop and gaming systems still allow for it.
One thing I do that is not on the list is buy disk video games. A lot of people download games directly on to their consoles but I rather have the physical copy. Looks good displayed

One thing I still do is collecting books, hard copies, I enjoy the touch and feel of books, be it college textbooks or novels.

Yea why not. New doesn't always mean better. Look at Netflix or disney plus, do they have all the movies you wanna see? I bet they dont have that rare directors cut of some random horror movie from the 80s. And as long as I have pc and a ps4 I can play discs like dvd or bluray. But I honestly never had music discs. Cable tv is just good for background, if I'm bored, between ps4 games, some select shows or news. But watching movies o cable tv with a 10min ad break every 20min died out for me too.

Because i know it's kind of pointless for me as i always watch everything online nowadays.
But sometimes i just walk over to the DVD section and search for movies i like, but i don't actually buy them lol.
It feels so good for some reason.

I still watch cable. I get several streaming services from my kids. I do collect DVDs sometimes. In the summer I use my membership to Netflix to get DVD rentals through the mail.

Unless you are out of the house and travelling, substituting Spotify for a CD or record is ideal. The sound is often much better, as well as being easier to focus to.
