What books have you been reading recently?

There's an excellent documentary of Manufacturing Consent based on the book that brought it more to life for me, even though it can't possibly cover everything that's in the book.
If you haven't already read Howard Zinn's A People's History Of The United States, I think that you'd enjoy it. You can download a pdf at BooksVooks. It's a good site with an impressive selection.
Why would you wanna abolish prisons? Lemme guess, you're one of those kids that think rapists and murderers can be "changed" with a bit of therapy and ✨ rehabilitation ✨
They can. We live in a society that currently benefits rapists and our prison system isn’t effective at reforming these individuals.
I say this as a victim of sa myself. I don’t think that justice should be seen as something a state has to do, I would rather see justice in a way that focuses on rehabilitation for the victims as well as the perpetrators so we can prevent these things from happening.
Historically the original rapist was portrayed as being a black man unable to “control his lost over white women” where as the rape of black women by white and black men where completely legal.
Even till this day a double standard is seen since black women are less likely to be believed when testifying as victims of sa since the standard of a victim of sa has always just been focused on cis het able bodied white women which alienated the experiences of women in more disadvantaged positions *
Nah I was SA assaulted by my own grandfather. It's an evil mindset that can't be corrected and I stand by it.
This YouTubed Kathryn went through something similar - she talks about her experience and thoughts as someone that advocates for prison abolition *
