Do we have any fiction writers here? Short stories, novels, or any thing else of that nature?

In a sense, but a very boring type. I've co-authored technical papers as a result of being a software engineer working in R&D for computer graphics.

I never had the talent for vividly-descriptive writing of short stories let alone novels. I'm a very visually-oriented type and into drawing and painting, but I can never "draw with words" in the way masters of a language can. I have no shortage of admiration for those who can and wish I could borrow their brain for a day.

I'm awe-struck by the writings of Nicholson Baker (one of my favorite authors):

He does with words what I always wanted to do in visual arts: finding the beauty in the mundane while weaving in dashes of sentiment.

The Mezzanine is one of my favorites. It's his very first novel and revolves around pretty much the most boring plot imaginable: the thoughts and musings of an office worker on his lunch break while he goes to purchase a new pair of shoelaces. :-D

Unfortunately, I suffered a severe concussion a few years ago and haven’t published anything since. I have a semi-autobiographical story I’ve been working on, but it’s hard for me to stay focused.

If you would like fun experiences writing (competitions and feedback.. also guided writing prompts such as "use this picture prompt to write"" or use these theme to write) ... mainly for poetry but also for short stories, then allpoetry. com is the place I developed my confidence... I have since written longer stories but of course before I started writing, I was addicted to reading , and I think I read some of the best novels ever, growing up, which is why I had good vocab for my age (at the time).
