Who is your favourite author?

Ruskin Bond for me of course. William Wordsworth for his poems, Stephen King for IT, I don't understand Shakespearian English or whatever it is. I'm thinking of trying out new authors. I have ordered 'You have reached Sam' + 'Heart Bones'. From Dustin Theo and Collen Hoover. Recently heard a lot about Collen Hoover, quite popular among girls in my school but I came across Dustin Theo while browsing across few websites to search which book shall I read next since I have read all the novels and poetry books in my school library (We have 5-7 libraries, I have completed all the novels from the library my class goes to). Heart bones have quite a dark start from what I read in the preview and few slangs are written however the language is quite simple and gripping. It's really well written with few moving sentences worth noting.

Key word here is favorite. Three way tie between Ken Follett, Dick Francis, and John Grisham. Yes, they are modern novelists and not highbrow literature for which I won't apologize.

Runner up? With thanks to @anon1903 a new favorite is E. Lockhart.

But, I read and have read lots of stuff and love those authors. Coleridge. Melville. Shakespeare. Amor Toles. Ted Sorenson. Hemingway. Erik Larson. Bill Bryson. And countless others.

I haven't really developed a taste of books so I'm willing to try anything but I get really bored too, I won't read the book if it isn't gripping from the starting two pages. So it's kind of really hard for me to find something which will suit me and for that I haven't discovered many authors as of yet. Just lingering around the well known names and books in library and suggestions. It's good to know so many authors though, you are the real reader.

@Apulu_Imback thanks for the kind words! I have the dubious advantage of being old (at least according to my wife and kids :) ) and also that my high school teachers were crazy about making us read lots and lots of books and so were my college professor. Two thoughts for you: first, you're AWESOME to even be thinking about this. That speaks so highly of you. Second, in my "book", anyone who opens a book (or Kindle, nook, PDF) is a real reader.

William shakespeare. I have read some of his stories like David Copperfield, Macbeth etc.

I don't know if he is an author but his stories were good to read.

I like his plot in his stories or script of dramas but his English is kind of tough and uncomfortable for me. I read his simplified works. However yes he have rich vocabulary and every person who wants to be writer must read his works.
