It's the parents choice whether they wanna bring there kid or not. I don't see anything wrong with it. I don't see why the lawmakers feel the need to interfere. They should mind their own bussines.

If a person inside a school wants to kill they can do it with pencils and anything else sharp enough. The point is to at least limit the ability to bring in weapons that have the capacity to kill multiple kids and teachers. At least with a pencil they have a fighting chance and can run to safety if a student comes unhinged.
A metal detector is a simple compromise to help keep schools safer and still allow responsible people to own gun's. Nothing will ever be full proof. You eliminate gun's and people will use bombs or illegal gun's off the streets if someone is serious about killing people. They can use pressure cookers as well. And I'm sure there's more ways I don't even know of.
