I don’t think there is anything sexual or inappropriate about drag itself. Sure a lot of drag queens have sexual elements in their shows but they perform them in 18/21+ clubs only.
However there’s plenty of PG rated drag brunches/shows that are family friendly. It’s just a guy in a dress and wig lip syncing to songs, what’s inappropriate about that without using homophobia as an answer? 🥴

if you don’t think drag is appropriate then DONT bring your kids to a drag show. I don't know why people feel like something needs to be banned for everyone just because they don’t like it. Parents should decide for themselves what is inappropriate for THEIR kids.

A little off the rails to the specific topic of drag queens, more a broad realization that recently occurred to me about homosexuality, or more accurately how homosexuality is perceived and presented…. I notice that people really get caught up in the physical, sexual aspect of homosexual relationships, that’s the focus, like it’s their perception of it as sexual perversion, there’s no real consideration either way for the nature of the relationship for the 90-something percent of the time when romantic partners AREN’T fucking. It’s just this “EW! Dicks in dudes’ bums! Fuck that!”🤦‍♂️😂 So it’s tough to take these opinions seriously because they’ve already dehumanized them, they aren’t approaching the issue in good faith.

More specific to drag queens, I’m pretty much in your camp on that. You don’t even have to be gay to be a drag queen, necessarily. I’m sure a straight drag queen is about as rare as a white cornerback in the NFL, lmfao, but I’m just sayin’😂 All the kids I knew as a child who grew up to be LGBTQ…. I could’ve called it in kindergarten lmao, they weren’t influenced to be that way, that’s just who they were, before their personalities had even fully developed. The little boy that played “House” and jumped rope with the girls…. he’s gay as a May daisy, respectfully😝 There were several girls who would roughhouse with us boys, they were called “tomboys”, and every last one of them dated women when they got older. Would the questioner favor opening porn theaters and strip clubs to children? The underlying premise of the asker's question is that you cannot legislate morality. In fact, you cannot NOT legislate morality and the community has the right and authority to place limits on conduct that it believes is inappropriate and not conducive to the well being of the community.

Once upon a time, child labor was deemed appropriate. The community, in effect, deemed this harmful to the children and the larger community and banned it. Presumably the parents that wanted their children to work should have objected?

The young man who recently killed 19 children in Texas grew up in a family - if such it can be called - where the mother was a drug addict. The father was absent from his son's life. The grandfather is an ex-convict. Suffice to say, this environment created a monster, yet the presumption of the questioner is that the state would have had no business stepping in.

To be sure, there is a balance to be struck between the individual and the larger community, and that balance is routinely debated. It is debated in the Congress, in the government - Federal, state, local - in the courts, in the media, in the churches, and so on. It is a debate with no end - as Benjamin Disraeli said, "Finality is not in the vocabulary of politics."

So Texas is well within precedent to be setting limits on what children see and do.

As far as the wisdom of banning children from seeing Drag Queens, it goes back to the questions above. Should they be allowed to see porn? Should they be admitted to strip clubs?

What the recent Texas massacre amply illustrates it is that we cannot predict the consequences of the environments to which we expose children. They are little unformed and developing minds and care ought be taken in how they are raised.

It may please the civil libertarian to assert that drag queens are a choice to be left to parents, but as Edmund Burke said, "The effect of liberty to individuals is that they may do as they please. We ought see what it will please them to do before we risk congratulations."

The community cannot be indifferent to how children are raised and educated. Educating them is delicate work and to expose children to the sensational and the lurid is, at best, imprudent. Acclimate children to such stimuli and the consequences will be unpleasant certainly for the life of the child and quite possibly for the larger community.

The ban on drag queens may be a judgment call, but it is a prudent one. We can be reasonably sure that children who are not exposed to such stimuli early in life will have a better chance at normal social and sexual development. The same cannot be said, particularly absent any mass sociological and psychological data, of of children who are taught that sexuality is a matter of no great moment, to be treated as casually as a children's cartoon.

Drag Queens are performers. And like every other performer, they have multiple types of shows. There are kid friendly Drag Queen brunches and library read alongs in my city. And of the many Drag Queens I've met and interacted with, they're pretty much all sweethearts who know what it's like to be a kid afraid to be themselves.

If you look through queer history, Queens have been pillars of our community for generations.

After hours shows clearly marked 18 ? Obviously don't bring your kids to. It's like sitting on your couch and pulling up a porno to watch all together. Ditch the kids with a babysitter and go out for a night on the town if you wanna go to an after hours drag show.

Family friendly drag shows - I brought my mother to one and she surprisingly loved it (I think she sees Drag Queens differently due to our cultural background) - are often just popular song sing alongs with a brightly costumed performer leading the way and occasionally walking through the audience dancing in a way a straight performer might (which is to say light flirting is sometimes a thing).

There will be some who say DQs can be raunchy, and they can, but they are acutely aware of their venues. The raunchy usually happens in an adult only space like a bar or club, and even then most of the time it's more suggestion or innuendo because if you're too on the nose about it it's not funny.

When they are in a venue where kids may be present they tone it down in the adult area. They are performers, more akin to theatre than anything else.

Two problems with a law like this:
1. The theatre has a long history with drag, in fact, Shakespearean plays were originally all male casts
2. The assholes will inevitably claim trans women are drag queens, either out of hate or ignorance, to get them arrested.

Well, drag shows weren't a thing for the straight community when I was a kid, and my parents were pretty conservative. However, HIRING drag queens to do a kid-friendly show sounds, however, like gobs of fun!

And, you know, kids are smart. They know the "women" are men pretending to be women. THat's all part of the schtick! And MEN IN WOMEN'S CLOTHING? Ever heard of Milton Berle? He was a straight up crossdresser! British men have been doing drag since Henry the 1st, I think. I have no issue with it as long as they aren't wearing the sexy outfits they normally wear in drag shows. I have seen some drag queens reading to kid's in the library wearing some questionable outfits.

With that said, if the majority of people of Texas vote against this no matter how pg they dress, that's their right and perhaps people dressing in drag is against their moral beliefs. People usually only see drag queens dressing very sexual. My guess is they wouldn't want a man or woman who dresses very sexual read to their kids either. You can call them homophobic all you want. I'm guessing most aren't going to care what you think about their moral beliefs.

My suggestions is if you have very liberal views then don't go live in a state that has very conservative views. Same with people with conservative views. Don't live in states that are mostly liberal. There are plenty of places to live in the United States that fit your beliefs. And just because it's not your belief doesn't make it wrong.

That's the thing, parents aren't allowed to decide what is best for their kids anymore. Does a parent have a choice when their kids go to school and learn critical race theory? A lot of choices are taken away from parents these days and that door seems to be swinging both ways. Even though I am not a drag fan, I would love to see it go. I don't think this is a matter for law makers. It is a parental matter. Parents have the right to get up and leave. I think the real issues that should be addressed is when the parents are overruled or shut out of their children's hijacked lives.
Shakespeare plays all used males for female rolls for centuries. So what happens if a lagit Shakespeare play is performed by an all male audience and a child just so happens to show up? Or would they have to set an age limit now on Shakespeare clasic plays?

Texas would like to be their own country again, seems like a good idea. Let any state leave and be their own country, stay on friendly terms and have free trade deals and military alliances. Maybe people would get along better if they felt like they had more local control and less federal control.

Sex Ed exists to teach kids about a fundamental human biology: reproduction. Only “straight” people are able to naturally accomplish this biological function. Do other identities and alternative sexual behaviors accomplish reproduction?
