If a musical group only has one hit record it was called a One Hit Wonder. When I was a kid it was this one.
+1 yThe two top ones are Dexys Midnight Runners "Come on Eileen" or A-ha "Take On Me".

"Take on me" was not their only hit. It's US radio where only that hit ever gets played.

@Daniela1982 I just looked and this topped out at #46 on the American charts. It's rather borderline to call that a "hit." I was quite aware of pop music in the late 1960's and 1970's and I've never before heard this song. But definitely not as much of a one-hit wonder as Larry Gross!

I can't believe that was a top hit. Maybe the top 300.

Wolfman Jack was the host of the event.
My favorite one hit wonder is Let's Get Together by The Youngbloods.32 Reply- +1 y
Who Let The Dogs Out! Which to this day, I still don't know is about ugly women at a club, or rude misogynist men at the club... Or literal dogs that broke out of the holding area. The fact they used a song about ugly women and/or men who are jerks, for the freakin' Rugrats movie though, is HILARIOUS! I ironically and unironically enjoy this song!

Every kid who heard that song thought he was actually singing about dogs lol
823 opinions shared on Entertainment & Arts topic. This is the first song that came to my mind. (I don't know why. I don't even have it in my playlist. I used to like it, back when I was a kid, I guess. Maybe my brain went to one of the oldest memories.)
https://www.youtube.com/embed/LuN6gs0AJls"As Modern English's only major hit song, they are generally considered one-hit wonders, despite not reaching the Top 40 of the U. S. Hot 100 during either of its runs on that chart. It was ranked #7 on VH1's 100 Greatest One Hit Wonders of the 80s."

@AmandaYVR I like that song.

@Jamie05rhs because the 1980's was the peak of music. Go through all the FM channels , and write down what era songs are from and 50% will have songs from 1980's.
- +1 y
@888theGreat HA! You're a funny guy. "1980's was the peak of music.". 😄😄. That's the best joke I've heard this entire year.
- +1 y
And the reason all of the radio stations play that crap is because radio sucks!!
- +1 y
@Jamie05rhs Your opinion, a poor one at that
- +1 y
@Jamie05rhs The reason is because people with taste request it. You probably request jungle music

exit, I told my husband this a couple of weeks ago and he instantly knew there was no f'ing way. "Oh. Yeah. That's dumb, you're right," I said. Wth was I thinking. I asked for a suggestion on what video to send you in reply. This is only vaguely related, but it is funny.

Anonymous(36-45)+1 ySuch a great song. I loved this song so much that when I was a kid I made a dub of it on my cassette tape when it was playing on the radio so I could listen on my Walkman.
These kids today don’t know the struggle. ✊
Anyways, I honestly don’t listen to many one-hit wonders. I’m very, very into music so if a group only has one good song I just sort of shrug and go “meh.”
I mean a hit song in many ways has a bit of a formula behind it. Usually mindless, brazen repetition. “Hey Macarena!” “Who Let the Dogs Out?” “Jump Jump” by those kids who wore their shirts backwards. That stupid Justin Bieber song where he just says “Baby, Baby, Baby” and squeals like a castratto. None of these are “good” songs. They are so simple a mongoloid could sing a-long to them.
And they do.

+1 ySugarloaf had 2 hits. The second was, "Don't Call Us, We'll Call You".
Having over 60,000 records in my collection, it's next to impossible for me to pick just one.
https://www.youtube.com/embed/m44_19pGgF4
I guess, for now, I'll go with this.07 Reply- +1 y
@FunkyMonkee You have 60,000 actual records?
Or are you referring to digital downloads? - +1 y
@Jamie05rhs No, actual records but, I also include a dozen or so pre-recorded cassettes and open reels and a couple hundred pre-recorded CD's. The rest is records dating back at least 120 years. The count doesn't include the couple thousand CD's or tapes that I've recorded or any of the thousands of MP3's I've got.
- +1 y
@FunkyMonkee Wow! You must need an entire separate room to store all of that media.
- +1 y
@Jamie05rhs At least 2.
- +1 y
Wow!!

@Jamie05rhs My neighbor had an entire room built onto his house just for his records. He's got at least 32,000. His 45's are in the main room and his 78's are in the basement under it. He's only got a few hundred albums.

I was tempted to put down Tony Burrows, who was a "One-Hit Wonder" five different times with different bands.

+1 yCan’t get you out of my head by Kylie Mongir or however u spell her last name
28 Reply- +1 y
She definitely still makes good music but I feel like that’s the only song people remember 😂
- +1 y
she had multiple hits and world wide tours lmao...
- +1 y
No she had many other hits in the mid 80s.
Problem is she is Australian and many times these foreign artisits are known in America for just one song and that is the only one played on radios here. None of these are one hit wonders.
Example:
"True" by Spandau Ballet
"Take on me" by A-ha
"Never gonna gove you up" by Rick Astley
Many times its a matter of the artist being from a past generation.
I can bet a good majority of younger crowd doesn't know of any other Journey song than "Don't stop believing".
- +1 y
Kylie Minogue is not a one hit wonder, LOL! She's just that in North America! She's bigger than Madonna and Beyoncé in the UK and Australia. Sometimes, literally!

I think he had just one album and there were some other good songs there but this was the only success on charts and on radio; perhaps also because of MJ's backing vocals.
