Why do low income tv show characters have the coolest apartments?

I wonder why tv show directors think it's a good idea to promote living in poorer parts of town, as it's quite dangerous to live in. I mean, at least for myself, I would afterwards wish I could copy these (often female characters) in real life, but in real life, girls' daddies would never let them do that. Instead, anyone with parents who care about them would have to pay the extra money just to live in a safer part of town, meaning that they wouldn't have much money left over for decorating.

That's incredibly unfair to say. Not everyone's family has money to put their kids up in a "nice" area. It's not that they're not loved, it's that money doesn't work the way it did in 1990.

Also, poor people generally have cool apartments. Living in a city is cool and it attracts a certain kind of person to live in one who is going to come home every day after working hard and feel like they can do better.

Making a room cool doesn't cost that much when you know how to save up your money, which a lot of poor people have to do when they work 2 jobs to make about 1k/week and then live in a $2000/month apartment. So that they can have some cash set aside for when a car breaks down or to go to college or on a vacation or it's someone's birthday or you get injured and have to miss precious days at work. Not everyone wants a life working in an office and not everyone knows how to do something else right off the cuff.

There's nothing wrong with showing the good sides of taking a risk and betting on yourself to pursue happiness.

I'm not sure what you mean. The only thing that comes to mind for me is Seinfeld, and how in the show, he had a BIG ASS New York apartment. However, it was somewhat implied that he was somewhat rich, even in the TV universe. But it doesn't explain how Kramer and George could also afford to live in New York City/Manhattan, even though they had low income jobs, or in Kramer's case, no job at all. I also just found out his apartment defines physics and  , as well.

All of entertainment can't be aspirational. Most people do not live a rich life, so it's actually a positive to show low income people living a creative and colourful life. You have to put the realities and logistics aside.

Big Bang Theory was a feast for the eyes, and no way those guys would live that colourfully, but hey, I can't complain because I want to look at visually stimulating interiors. It's half the reason I watch things.

Rent control. In places that have hard rent control you might have tenants paying $400 per month net to tenants paying $4000 or more. We have a sort of form of that in California for homeowners in Prop 13. Because my grandparents owned this house from 1971, and I directly inherited it and live in it, it is locked for yearly property taxes at 1% of its 1976 level. I have neighbors near me who bought four years ago. Their house is smaller but they pay at least ten times in property taxes as I do because their base year is 2018.

I remember years ago in the uk a similar question was asked, why does everyone on tv live in a big roomy house, even the poor people? Apparently it's because you need to get a film crew plus equipment inside. Even if you build one in a studio small rooms look odd on screen.

Because it’s a TV show. Everything has to look good. I laugh a lot. When I see a TV show. They’re dressed up in their own house. Got on caked on makeup. Have their hair done real nice. As well as always have such a spotless house. Nothing is ever moved out of place.

It's cute how modern feminists destroyed the traditional system where dads protected their daughters & women were respectful to the dad and let him have say in who she dated & married. Now they want dad to protect them by blowing his money on where she lives while she's riding random scummy guys in her bedroom all hours of every day of the week instead of GETTING A JOB like feminists say they have to prove they are "strong and independent". Because tv shows are incredibly unrealistic of life. I've seen so many "teacher" and "scientist" with luxury houses on movies, which is generally not the case. Even the iCarly girl had a luxury apartment, yet her brother worked at a movie theater.

Decorating doesn't have to be expensive! It is of you buy everything brand new in the store yes, but you would be surprised how cheap you can buy second hand furniture that looks amazing. Go shopping at thriftshops for furniture. Its fun because you absolutely never know what you will find in there and every week they have completely different stuff for sale

Because Hollywood is trying to brainwash poor people into giving corporations all of their money as a way of saying "if you don't buy this or have that, then you're not cool." It's a way of keeping "street cred" alive and well, falsely telling them if they don't have that, then their self esteem will sink. And it's succeeding wildly. How many people on social media that live in craphole towns all over do you see posting up pics of them holding up an envelope full of cash? I live in San Francisco, where none of those same people can afford to live, and I don't know 1 single person who does asinine garbage like that. They don't have to.

Because Biden and the government as a whole subsidizes them. I will not take Section 8/Voucher tenants... but 1145.00 monthly subsidy and they pat 450. is a pretty good deal... 1500.00 for 3 bedroom. What you going to do for the other 1800 month you make but new car and great place for the lady or man to chill in...

Depends on the type of show. In a drama, those low income houses don't tend to look so pretty. In a sitcom, they're going to laughs, so they do it because an accurate representation wouldn't be funny.

Because my parents and grandparents could afford to buy a house on poverty level income if they were smart about saving, and rents as a result were much lower. So not too long ago, it would have been an accurate representation.
