I know all of these "what-if" scenarios are more or less opinions and theorizing and all that... but I wanted all of your guys' opinions.
Personally I think Mace should've trained him from the start given his experience. Definitely more qualified than Obi-Wan.
Either Mace will teach Anakin how to balance the dark side with the light or he'll quicken his decent into the dark side. That's what I think would happen. Which do you think would happen? Or something else?

He was one who was against training anakin to begin with wasn't he? And the council only allowed it because Obi-Wan was ready to become a master himself and was able to train a Padawan. So if it wasn't for Obi-Wan to train no one would have. If he trained anakin in this what if scenario anyway. As you said there are two possibilities: He was a master of Vaapad which incorporated the dark side to an extend. So he would have probably have seen it earlier AND would have trained him better to controle it. Obi-Wan did not realize it early enough and kind of ignored anything he has sensed.
As he was also one to confront Darth Sidious he had maybe better controle over his padawan than him as a random master of the Jedi order. I would say he could have at least a chance to stop Anakin from becoming Darth Vader and falling completly to the dark side. On the other hand he would confront him earlier with his dark side so Anakin would have taken a completly different turn, which may have him fall to the dark side even without Sidious help. That wouldn't result in Anakin becomming Darth Vader nor a Sith but an expelled Dark Jedi. Also Darth Sidious had contingency plans for his contingency plans so it wouldn't have changed a thing about the fall of the republic at all.
I know he was against it. I was just envisioning a scenario where the Jedi Council decided to take on Anakin and Mace begrudgingly accepts the task to train him. Perhaps in Mace's mind he thinks he would be the best one to take on this task since Obi Wan is too inexperienced.
And that was what I was getting at. Mace knows the dark side better than Obi. Perhaps he would've been better at helping Anakin simply on account of that.
Interesting take 😁 pretty much what I thought. Either way, if Mace trains Anakin he probably doesn't become Darth Vader.
But that much is certain: Sidious would've destroyed the Republic regardless of what happened to Anakin. He had too much political power. If Anakin doesn't fall to the dark side Sidious would've found some other apprentice.
To be honest he wouldn't have trained anikin
It seemed he was clear on that, yeah. I'm just saying like maybe there was a possibility in some alternate timeline where he said "if you all are insistent on training him then I'll do it." Maybe things would've been different.
Oh ok
