I'm debating whether spending £15 is worth it... ofc it's Metallica but I'm fearing this album may be substandard 😭

Every Metallica album for the past 35 years has been substandard.
And I saw Metallica 34 years ago during the Justice Tour, so I know what I am talking about.
RIP Cliff Burton
Really, ask yourself, is there going to be anything on that album as good as these?
No, of course not.
"Creeping Death" from "Ride the Lightning"

"Master of Puppets" from "Master of Puppets"

and because we need a version with actual bass (*) this live performance of "Frayed Ends of Sanity".

In August 1988, Metallica released "... And Justice For All".
It was a passable album, but the absence of Cliff was clear.
I was rather underwhelmed and disappointed after waiting so long for this album to come out.
The worst part about it is that Lars deliberately minimized Jason Newsted's bass.
What an asshole; Lars is always screwing things up being a legend in his own mind.

Yeah the lack of the bass on AJFA is quite clear, and definitely unwelcome. However I still think that was the last of the best albums. Kill em all, Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets were god-tier, but I still think Justice was a sweet album. I mean with One, Blackened, Harvester of Sorrow, Eye of the Beholder to name a few, this album might have been underwhelming compared to the prior three, but is still a pretty damn good one. Now, all the albums after AJFA have been substandard. With exceptions on tracks such as Don't tread on me, Fuel etc these albums have had some hidden gems but overall they do not compare by any means to the first 4.
This all being said, I truly believe Metallica is stepping up their game. The released singles from 72 seasons have all been bangers as far as I am aware. Still nowhere near the first 3, but they can never achieve that. It was a phenomenon of its time. The hormones and angst of spotty teenage boys in the 1980s with drugs and alcohol to fuel their songwriting (well in Kill em alls case it was Mustaines writing for the most part 😤). And ofc they still had Cliff Burton. Rip. But yeah, to summarise whilst nothing can compare to the 3 AMAZING albums, I still think that this album COULD be good. However, it might just be that they picked the three best tracks to prerelease and the rest is rubbish. We will see.
