Is it bad to write songs about dark topics?

Are we depressed because we listen to sad music, or listen to sad music because we’re depressed?
Research says the latter. Media doesn’t affect behavior so much. It’s generally there from other reasons.
Even when we’re happy we’re sad.

no, infact i think one benefit of art is that it lets us show people ugly truths without them knowing it

That would be called gothic music. It's okay
welcome to country music!
That is pretty much every song.
Songs, poems, novels and other creative ways of expressing ourselves are for sharing our own experiences.
I don't think there should be a taboo.
Some excellent songs involve dark topics. here's the first that came to my mind. it describes a state of delirium; a feeling of being detached from reality.
You should write songs that resonate with how you are feeling. If it is about something sad that is okay.
I can name at least two songs about addiction that already exist - master of puppets (metallica), sober (tool), and others that might be about addiction like Bad Habit (dresden dolls)
Oh, here is bad habit, by the way. Kind of hard to find because so many bands have written a song by that name and the Dresden Dolls are kind of obscure..

No, I'd be happy to hear one that isn't about the mainstream topics.
Bad no, but you won't see me buying them on Spotify. What the hell is scdl ideation?
No, it's not bad. Though trigger warnings might be helpful.
ITS NOT LIKE YOU'D BE THE FIRST
