Short stories - I'd like to write an easy to read one about epic moments in my life. I'm new to it & seeking ways to embark on it. Any suggestions?

Back in the `90's, Jon Goodman told me he was writing a book about the life of his father, Dickie Goodman

and he said that he was just going to start with his birth and tell the whole life story from there up to his death in `89. I suggested to him that he start out at the end, making the first bit a sort of encompassing bit about what he'd accomplished in his life and THEN tell the reader everything about how he got to that point starting with his birth. That's what Jon did.
It's like saying, "This is me, this is where I am and now, THIS is how I got there!" I just watched a movie last night that does exactly that! "The Girl Most Likely To..." Is starts out with her getting married and then she tells the whole story of how she got to that point.
There's also at least one Bowery Boys movie that did that, too. It starts out with the gang getting the snot beat out of them by gangsters and then Slip starts to tell the story of how he got to that point.
The t. v. show, "Roswell" kinda does that, too. The whole series was "narrated" by Liz via her journal and the end shows her dad reading the last entry of her journal as if he'd been reading the whole thing in her voice.

So, I'd recommend starting a blog. Google and other services provide free blogging services (I can personally recommend blogspot. com). There you can freeform try out expressions and share those with people you care for and the world might see them also (e. g. start with friends first, to get a general feel how the writing is, then see what happens).

Just be careful to not dox yourself. Try to avoid posting real names, either avoid naming people or come up with some consistent nick name only you know when speaking about yourself and others.

Though if your thinking about politics, you might want to use your real name, but whenever your thinking of using others real names make sure you've checked and its okay to do that (aka don't dox others either).

If your shyer, then a diary is a great way to start recording your life.

Remember that no one can see what’s in your head, description is your friend. Tell us about the environment and let that set the mood for the story you want to tell, talk about the sunlight, the smells, create the image in words. From there, it’s a matter of finding how you want to tell the story. Do you want to include dialogue? Do you want it to be poetic and rhythmic? The rest is pretty much up to your creative interests. It also never hurts to look at other short stories to see how others tell their tales to learn from them and how you can tell your own.

choose simple words.

make spaces line spaces between lines and short paragraphs. empty line between paragraphs.

pick a nice memory and describe it dramatize it n change names from real.

Pick one specific moment and write they detail you remember. Then edit it.
