A little space is good for little things & I would build or buy a little indoor dog house & put it in that little space.

It would be great for putting movable objects like an exercise ball or a rounded acrobatic sphere. You could put a wheel stopper at the edge to stop it from rolling off.

Be very careful putting anything in that space that would allow a child to climb up and fall over the railing.

Put objects I use often but are bulky, like exercise equipment. Maybe a little reading nook? A little table with a plant or sculpture or some family photos?
