Starring Demond Wilson as Lamont Sanford, Chris Brown as his grandson who takes over the shop.
What y'all think?
If not, tell me why it wouldn’t work in today’s world.

No, because "Sanford And Son,' as hilarious as it was, was rife with black ghetto stereotypes, plus the "N" word cropped up on some occasions. (The latter reason is why a half-century anniversary remake of the riotously funny "Blazing Saddles" would be impossible.)
I agree, it was just a different time
I’m not sure how it would go just like all the family. How would that go?
Chris Miller wrote an idea for, "All In De Fambly". The Bunkers were all black except for Miguel (Meathead), who was a Puerto Rican.
@FunkyMonkee well they already had the Jeffersons and he’s like that George Jefferson
I think it was written before The Jeffersons had their own show.
Do you probably thinks Sanford and son wouldn’t work today because it came out in the 70s being a different time?
WEhat ya gotta remember is that John was a product of his times. He was already in his 50's in real life when he did that show and was probably playing a 60-something year old. So, for a modern day version, the guy playing Fred Sanford SHOULD be in his 50's or 60's and in his prime in the `80's or `90's. Think of a 60 year old black man of today and try to picture him as the modern Fred Sanford. Do you think THAT'D work? How many blacks today from the `80's would be interested in opening a junk shop? I think that'd be beneath them..
It's because GAG has become so incredibly picky, recently. I posted a question a week ago that offended NOBODY and they took it down a day later claiming it was offensive!! GAG is becoming a dictatorship!!
@FunkyMonkee that is true too
You know what dude, Sanford and Son was definitely a product of its time in the 70s. Things were different back then for sure.
I can see why some people might think some of the jokes or themes wouldn't fly as well today. Like the way they used to joke around using racial slurs and stuff probably wouldn't go over too hot in 2024.
And just some of the storylines might feel outdated. Like the way women were portrayed compared to now. Or how being openly sexist/homophobic was more accepted attitude back in the day.
At the same time though, the core of what made Sanford and Son so hilarious - the dynamic between Fred and Lamont, their get-rich-quick schemes, pushing each other's buttons - that stuff is pretty timeless comedic gold.
I think if they did a reboot, the writers would have to modernize it for sure. Switch up some of the dated jokes while keeping the heart of the characters. And get a diverse cast and crew to make sure all the humor lands right.
If anyone could revive it in a woke enough way, I bet it could still work. But it would definitely take some finesse to translate that 70s magic to today. Not sure if it's even possible to fully capture the same energy.
@FunkyMonkee You got a point there. If we set the reboot in like the late 80s/early 90s, that could modernize it some without changing the core too much.
And yeah man, picturing a fly black dude in his 50s-60s from back in the day as Fred - I could totally see that working! Like maybe he's tryna stay relevant by gettin into the hip hop business or something lol.
And nah you right, most brothas them days probably wouldn't be tryna run no junk shop. That'd be small potatoes compared to what they could do with they hustle and education level.
Maybe Fred sank all his savings into a failing record label or auto shop instead. Still gives him opportunities for all kindssa schemes and stunts on Lamont.
And you know Lamont would be trying to convince Pops they need to go to college or get real jobs haha. Just modernized versions of their classic squabbles.
Yeah dude, setting it in the 80s/90s does make more sense than trying to totally recreate the 70s vibe. Thanks for helping me think it through more - I can definitely picture a dope reboot working with some adjustments!

No, it's just too cheesy, not acted well enough.
Some (cough, most) things don’t need reboots…
That's a great idea.
